Bollox! Dropped the bike... Bent a bracket... :(
« on: 11 October 2012, 06:29:23 pm »
Managed to drop the bike the other day, all low speed, too much front brake, skidded over - doh!  Nowt serious, couple scratches to faring/belly pan/exhaust and bent crash bobbin. Seriously gutted, as bike was almost mint previously. Guess it's inevitable when you're a new rider though.

Anyway, looking at crash bobbin, it seems its the bracket it screws into behind the belly pan that is bent. It's a small U shaped bracket that bolts to frame, with bobbin going through belly pan into it. Is this part of the belly pan mounting kit? Does it have a name?! Where could I get a replacement?

How about taking it off and unbending it? Bit of heat and a lot of brute force.

Oh dear it's always sad when someone drops their bike I've been lucky recently and not dropped it  hope I'm not tempting fate........I do need to be aware though not to use too much front brake when swinging across my garage door  as I'm on gravel.

I've been fairly lucky, the one time I did nearly drop it it was slow and the handle bar caught the rear bumper on my parents car and just rested on it - the bike didn't actually hit the ground which meant no damage and a huge sigh of relief. Another inch over and I would have been screwed :(

At work we have a consultant come in sometimes who rides a (third party only insured!) Ducati 1199.  He dropped it the other day and got away with a broken clutch lever!

Hi all!
I was knocked clean out on impact, flung under the van, slid over a road and slammed into a wall, narrowly missed by my bike (by about 10inches).
Got a severe concussion( I'm forgetting everything and everyone) a broken toe 6 inch cut to the bone on my shin and severe lower half bruising. All from 40mph! Big respect to the Nitro N1200 lid for protecting me, along with alpinestars gloves boots and jacket!
As for the side stand mate, that's in the other garage, I should be okay to get rid, as I took it off about 4 months before the crash :)
Now waiting to hear from insurance etc about where we go next. I am going to miss the old girl, 40000 miles old and she went this way:(

Sounds like you were very lucky not to have been hurt worse :eek  Hope the bruises etc heal quick & insurance dont give you the run round. Can you claim for your gear?

Hi mate, by all accounts all bystanders etc thought I was a gonner! I've started the claim rolling, all gear will be replaced, even my signed lid ( signed by mcguinness , plater Camier and loads more). They're giving me a courtesy bike when I'm able, and are being great :)

I binned a Divvie 900 right up the middle of 3 lanes of traffic at 40 going in to London in the morning rush hour, slid down lane 3 like a well thrown bowling ball.
As I was sliding down the road wondering why I hadn't stopped yet, I was looking idly at all the cars all around me and thinking it would be great not to hit one, or get run over.....

The bike, and myself, never hit anything, miracle!
