IIRC you raised the problem some time ago, even though they said it wasn't their problem. Could be outside service level agreement = a few quid for Ma for Xmas sherry

Hi mate, i'ts an earth short on the line causing what we telephone engineers call a ring trip. Dissconnect the 2 wires going to terminals A and B in the master socket(main line in) and then ring your number. If it rings correctly you know the fault is internal, if it trips it's the external line.

Ma called me tonight, on her phone!! Apparently a very nice man came and fixed her line. He knocked on the door and said the wire outside had rotted or something, so he's replaced it, free of charge. she gave him a cake she'd just baked and off he went.

I did all the sorting of the problem. I didn't get a cake. Life is so unjust....

The phone has been faulty for about a month! I'm not phoning them  again, I'm just glad it's fixed
