Ive had Pirellis as long as I can remember always thought them a great tyre.

When I bought my FZ6 Fazer S2 it had Maxxis supersport tyres on it and to be honest I thought I would be changing them PDQ (being a tyre snob).

However...

They have been fantastic!!!

Ive just changed the rear for a Maxxis Diamond which is the sports touring version, it was £140 fitted.

Again I think its a super tyre feels very secure wet or dry. This has made me change my views on tyres and I would be happy to recommend Maxxis. Never thought I would be saying that!!!

Just had a new set of Maxxi's on mine to replace.... an old set of Maxxi's.

They're bloody good tyres for the price aren't they?

totaly agree in the dry there fantastic in the wet they are bloody scary!glad i dont tend to ride loads in the wet,i normally user pirelli super corsa pro which are much the same in the wet but even more grip in dry

havent used them as been a recent newbie(feb) but had bt014 on and always thought them felt a bit greasy on the road trying different ones got coni on front and moving to mich to the rear

Hi Rob

As it happens I have just been through the tyre deliberation and ordered a pair of Michelin PR3s.

Reasonably happy with the Avon Sport Ultras I had previously (esp. how long they lasted) but the PR3 get really good reports so thought worth a try. Fitting this coming weekend with any luck.

Any recommendations for what IS good in the wet? (or at least, reasonable). While my bike doesn't need tyres, it'd be handy to know - this IS England, and it'll be a daily, all year round!

Well I've had a BT 023 fitted on the front recently and it's rock solid in the wet, seems better than the 021 it replaced,,,

Dunlop Roadsmart excellent tyres in the wet and give decent mileage and grip

PR3's. best I've ever used in wet (bloody amazing) wear well, knee down capable. What more do you want?

My 1000 has the Maxxis Touring type ones on, have got right to the edge of them in the dry, but yes, a little scary in the wet, but seem to let go progressively. Had my first 2 wheeled slide the other day!
Also, they don't like hitting drain covers or white lines or overbanding while leant over, even modestly, most more expensive brands I have had seem to cope OK with these kind of things in the dry...

hem maxis sound like my cheap car tyres had a four wheel slide the other week in damp conditions and they let go easy when setting off from traffic lights

It's tyre change time for me. 8,000 odd miles on my PR2's but they are starting to fidget and jump about on overbanding, so that's their lot.
I see the Metzeler Z8s are getting good press and can be had for £215 delivered, has anyone tried them on a Gen 1 thou?

Phil TK I've just put PR2s on mine,....wouldn't you put them on yours again?

PR2s & PR3s, both fantastic dry and wet, and you can mix them up. Got them on both bikes. A bit more expensive, but cheaper per mile. I wouldn't use anything else.

Yes, they were in fact my second pair. I think they are ideal for the bike but I do a lot of filtering between lanes on my commute which means running over raised white lines and overbanding. Despite excellent performance in other respects the PR2s arn't the most stable in that situation and after around 6/7000 mile mark you have to be a bit carefull with them. 'Not dangerous if you know what they are going to do though but unpleasant.
The bumpf for the Z8 blurbs on about less bump steer and more stability when worn, in fact for the launch journalist were given a set worn down to 2mm and they were still stable apparently. This attracted me to them
BTW I rather miss the Conti RoadAttack 2s, I had 2 pairs of those and the front tyre is quite exceptional and transforms the steering on the Gen 1. Unfortunately CR2s are too pricey for my present budget.

I am a bit of a Metzeler convert, my previous R1 had them on, felt lovely. The Z8s are definitely on my wish list for later on..
