new key from ignition barrel
« on: 24 September 2012, 10:19:14 am »
As some of you know I'm rebuilding an FZS600. I'm waiting for the key to be posted from Australia (long story), but if it doesn't turn up I need to find another solution. Can the key be cut from the barrel? Has anyone had this done before? I've got no way of finding out the key number and the ignition barrel doesn't seem to have a code on it anywhere.

Or you could buy my barrell with keys for £25 + P&P which would be about 3-4 quid.

Any locksmith who advertises as "auto-locksmith", and older than 40 should be able to do it. I had to get one out to cut a key from the ignition barrel of my Ford Capri when come cunt nicked off with my bag.

Be prepared to pay, though.

Cover a blank key in lipstick, flat all along it. put it in barrel and turn. take it out and the indentation is what you need to remove with a fine file

I saw that on prisoner cell block H one episode so its bound to work, although that was with a Yale type so there might, just might, be discrepancies

Thats all very well but what kind of lipstick? There are so many different ones and colours.
And if he has got some lipstick, why has he got it!

Thanks for the replies, the key has (luckily) made it from Australia, and the bike is back in business!

Fill the barrel with plaster of paris then crack it open once its set. create a jelly mould of the plaster. Take that to a blacksmith to pour in liquid steel and voila!

Of course, then you've broken open the barrel. To fix that, pour plaster of paris around the key....
