I started a thread about them possibly in decline a few months ago, sadly looks like I was right.

From MCN:

Quote
Hein Gericke UK has been placed into administration with buyers for the British arm of the German parent company now being sought.

The administrators, Moorfields Corporate Recovery are looking to sell the business and have invited interested parties to get in touch by Monday 6th August.

Maybe we should save up?

Can't say I'm surprised.
Their website's a mess and the my nearest store always seemed worryingly quiet whenever I dropped in. That and their pricing structure which was either too high or too low (not that I'm complaining about a dozen litres of 10W-40 semi-synthetic for £30, delivered), made it hard to see how they could make a profit.
Which, of course, they don't: pre-tax loss of £1.3M last year on sales of £18.2M.

£18m sales....sad they couldnt turn a profit on it. I too expected this to happen, when they were always offering mad discounts...it will never work, just keeps squeezing profits even more.

I went earlier, don't know if it was just the one in Hull but there weren't many bargins to be had. 20% off most clothing and 10% off helmets but considering the high prices to begin with I wasn't tempted. Think the staff were unpacking new stock as well...

Ditto. I was very disappointed.  I've got myself fully kitted out by my local store over the last couple of months.  I went in hoping to pick up some bargains, but these deals are worse than all of the ones I used to get my other stuff.

I'll wait and see if the prices drop any more.

Sad times, but needs must, so went to Liverpool store today, 20%, 25% and 40% off some stuff. :)
For example, £44.99 for 1 set of EBC brake pads with 40% off........ that makes £26.99.
I walked out having bought nothing. :(
Closing down sales don't have customers walking out having spent nothing.
I can get 2 sets of the same pads off Ebay for just over £40 posted.  Only slightly more at a local dealer not associated with HG.
The staff at Liverpool have been great to me as a customer over the years, for which I am very grateful and I have put quite a bit of business their way, but previous 'get the customer in' sales were far better than their closing down sale is now.  I ain't buying 'owt yet, not 'till they really close down.

IF IT AIN'T BROKE, FIX IT 'TILL IT IS.

Went into the Southampton store today and was very disappointed as everything was at 20% reduction. Walked out as the prices are ridiculously high anyway and 20% off was an insult for a closing down sale.

I've heard that some stores may stay if a proposed takeover goes ahead.

Has anyone studied the closing down sale posters. Is there a "Better Than" in small letters hidden at the top? :lol
Don't know about pads and stuff but you could easily get 30% off their gear long before any closing down sale (or is it?).

Still not impressed.

I got the 'further reductions' email yesterday, so called the store to find out what the discount was on some stuff I was interested in.  They quoted the original price and the discounted price to work out the percentage.  The original price was higher than the price in the current catalogue, meaning the discounts aren't as high as they claim.

Out of interest I took a look at their german website, to see a 'Summer Sale', with discounts of up to 50%, and they appear to post to the UK.  Might get myself a pair of gloves that are cheaper that way than they are in the closing sale here.

Tbh I briefly worked in one of the stores and they always met their targets
in there. I strongly suspect the issues have come from up the chain rather
than down as is usually the way. I don;t think the banking crisis or the
recession helped but i wouldn't be suprised if someone higher up has been
skimming till so to speak.

They had problems paying staff, getting new stock in the list goes on it was
only a matter of time. Shame really as I got some good cheap winter gear
from there ... oh well.

The shame is there are some more good lads going to be out of work soon
which anyway you look at it is rubbish.
