Universal Digital Gear Indicator
« on: 30 June 2012, 07:14:55 pm »
I fancy the idea of a universal gear indicator for my Fazer. They are about £17ish on ebay.

Has anyone bought one and how easy are they to fit and do they work well.

I fitted one. It was very difficult to adjust the sensors and magnet to make it count accurately. The 2nd gear is not very precise. When the bike is cold or under very hard acceleration it sometimes do not misses to count that gear but it is the bike's fault. It is still good enough for that price.

If there's nobody in front of me i'm in top gear, if there's traffic i'm in first/second gear, anything in between gets me away from BMW drivers!  :lol

Use your ears, it's the greatest indicator ever, and prevents you taking your eyes off the muppet in front of you who's texting, eating an apple and smoking a fag, with 'L' plates on!

Easy to fit. A real pain in the ear to set up. Once fitted you have to educate the little b**t**d. You have to set it up at 3000rpm in each gear, which is easy on rear end speedo sensors. Unfortuntely fzs 600 fazers are fitted with front wheel speedo drives. So i could never get the required time at 3000rpm due to car driving morons. So i gave up and took it off. Now i just count the gears in my head. Much safer!!!! Good luck.

I was thinking of getting one of these as I had an indicator on my 125 and found it useful when I was learning.  However, 1st or 2nd I get pops from the exhaust on over-run, 6th at 5k rpm is 60mph and anything in between doesn't really matter as long as it's appropriate for the speed I'm doing.  Having ridden for almost three months without one and not missing it, I decided not to bother getting one.

Mine came fitted with an acumen one.  It's got a major delay on it, not even close to instant, but I've caught myself in 5th instead of 6th a couple of times.

Could be handy for knowing how many kick downs to do when taking a left or right turn
