Yeh, I know $:\$ . Couple of mates have done theirs and they're up for helping me but although I usually do everything myself to the bike I have to be honest that I'm just not looking forward to this. Have you actually done yours red ?

have you checked them yet? are you certain they need to be adjusted. checking them is no big deal

I've done them before when I changed the camchain.

Cams off isn't to bad, just take your time with it and you'll be fine.

no...i checked them and were just inside tolerences......ive done a few engine rebuilds in my time,mostly 70s-80s stuff...fairly straight forward,a haynes manual is always helpful and plenty of time.....get your mates round to help...they can always make the tea

hi spider.......curious as to why you suggest fitting a new clutch at the same time

.......iam a bit of an old boy and been riding since i was 19 , ive owned my fair share of bikes over the years and always do my own maintance....i have never replaced a clutch on a bike , never needed too.....done loads of cars but never a bike

Two separate issues:
1) Check clearances.
2) Adjust valves.
The first part is easy, and they are often within tolerances. You could do that, and if you find they do need adjusted, worry about the procedure then. Unfortunately they're a camshafts out PITA to adjust, but then I guess most modern bikes are. The extended valve clearance check services intervals compensates for this a bit....

wen you split the engine. the clutch is right there to change. as its not a lot of dosh i wud change it. thats all.

.....checking/adjusting the valves is no more than removing the cam/s..cover!!......removing the cams if need be to re,shim etc??....the clutch sits on the side of the engine?....no where near the top of engine!!!!!!!!!

yes....just top cover not full engine re-build

Valve clearance easy to check. Bastard to change and you need to remove the cam and fart about with shims.

why wud you not change the clutch. if you adjust the valves. changing the clutch while its open in front of you makes sense. or do you think its not worth it. and do it all again wen it goes. that pointless and hard work to me

) you dont open the clutch when you take the cam cover off which is on top of the bike the clutch is on the side of the engine do u understand what these guys are talking about $:\$ i need a beer

spider....if the clutch was to need replacing at a later date it is an easy job..its on the side of the engine behind cover with yam logo on....a much easier job than shims....take a look at haynes manual and all will become clear

i wanted that job done on my fzs600. dealer sed we have to split the engine. its a long messy job and while its being done. the clutch is right in front of you so we will do that as well. as the job was going to cost approx £550 plus vat i thought. sod that its taking the piss. so i have left till i get more money. was he fobbing me off. all other work was done to a good standard.

well??...if i was you spider i would name and shame the turd???......he,s filling you with crap!!!!...you do not split the engine!!!!! and has for being a long messy job??.....usualy a hour tops to change a clutch?...and thats with stopping for a cuppa and a wa..k?...if you wish??

£550+vat......think he,s realy taking the piss matey????????????........its so simple to change the clutch on a fazer?....easy to follow instructions found in haynes manual!!...even for the non mechanical minded,...you will find step by step instuctions??......to have the valves chkd i would have thought around the £200 mark would have been more realistic?....and mabe....around the 50 mark for the clutch? ok?..plus the vat?....but 550plus vat?...fkn disgustin!!

i rung him and he said that includes doing the shims as well. does that sound about right. i bought a triumph explorer because of the money i cud see going out the window. the decider was i will also need a new rear shock cos i have done 24,000 miles and although i am only 12stone it is worn out. mct dun the front and sed the rear is fine. but i wud notice improvement if i bought a new one. bit conflicting really. but i want to keep fazer for life. 10years so far. love it. all other bikes about 8 of them just come and go. i have used dealer for approx 6years
