Later model tank?
« on: 17 May 2012, 01:48:20 pm »
will the bigger 22 litre tanks fit on a 98 model bike?

mine has the 18 litre tank, and that extra gallon would come in massively useful when im doing min. 400 miles a week!

In a word yes. I did this to my son's bike "cos" his old tank grew a hole and the later one was all i could get at the time. The fuel level sensor is different so your fuel gauge will not be as accurate but the old sensor goes in after a fashion. The plug and wiring is different on the later tank sensor so you will need to use the old sensor. Hope this helps.

That's probably why my fuel gauge is absolutely rubbish. I bought a 1998 model which which already had a 2002 blue tank, cowling and fairings installed, and I can do 100 miles before the fuel gauge even drops from full!
#Driven by the irony that only being shackled to the road could ever I be free.#

My bike takes ages to come off the full tank sign as well, i've never tried checking the mileage though before it drops?

I've got an actual 03 model and even it takes ages to come off the full .. but I am filling it to the very top AND it drops below the F at around 80 miles so not quite as bad as 110%'s fuel guage

2001, with 2001 tank. My fuel gauge has 3 positions:
1) Full, lasts about 150 kilometres
2) half - lasts for another 150 kilometres
3) reserve - starts from 250 or 300 kilometres. That part is quite accurate. You can actually see the gauge dropping slowly from low to the empty part.

So I rely on resetting trip counter after filling tank to the brim. Just like on bikes without fuel gauge. I'd rather have oil temp (or even pressure) gauge, than fuel one.
Most things done in a hurry need to be done again - patiently.

Of course there is no substitute for doing it old school. Open the tank and look. :lol :lol
