Make it up as you go.  Do a first left, then first right, then first left again and so on.  You never know where you'll end up.  If you fancy a change, start with first right.......

Pick roads that you know, I'm sure there must be plenty. I went out for an hour this afternoon (been at work at weekend) I thought about Brid but as I got to Driffield it started to rain so I turned towards Wetwang then back into Hull did maybe 50 miles but it got me out for a while.

Well Enchiladas .. (are you sure about that spelling ? )

You do live in a grand biking area .. bit spoiled for choice up there as far as roads go I think.

However .. I recon you would be well advised to stick to quiet roads you know on your first day .. Also you might pull over whenever you can.  Stop, get off, put the bike on the stand, walk around it twice, get back on and then ride on.

If as you say you have been 'away from bikes' for any length of time .. getting used to handling the bike is going to be just as important as riding it .. for the first day at least .. just in my opinion  :rolleyes of course.   Enjoy Yourself Buddy  :lol

or you could do what my dad used to do,if the bike is a used bike looking at the miles with the first digit count the amount of turns and turn the amount the first digit is,ie left, then do the same then turn right etc,you wont know where you will end up.wont work on a new bike though

Filey way might be a good run for a first run, esp if weather stays decent (was rain in Scarbados this morn, brightened this aft but chilly). Am heading from Scarborough to Scotland tomorrow (Wed) for a wedding (here's hoping it'll stay dry....)

I remember picking my bike up last July from Croydon then riding it back to Portsmouth! 1st time I had ridden in over 10 years. it took me the best part of 3 hours the 1st hour was a blast after that it became a bit of a drag tbh and when i got home I was frozen and aching. took it up to Basingstoke the next day and was grinning like a Cheshire cat.

so my advice would be dont be too adventurous on your 1st ride!!

After 10 years it you would ache as riding a bike for any distance requires stamina. You have to admit you still enjoyed it though.

just got back after my first ride out.
not an ideal night for it, but as it was astronomy society meeting and i got the bike yesterday, i couldn't wait !
about 30 miles there and 50 back.
my fingers are numb, my feet are frozen, but i have the biggest / silliest grin on my face you can imagine ! :D
