Quick Gen1 Question
« on: 06 May 2012, 09:11:34 pm »
Hi all, can anyone advise me on the socket size required for the front sprocket nut (05 Gen 1)??

Had convinced myself that I had the correct size socket from my fzs600 days, but it would appear not.. :\

Cheers,

I'm sure I had to buy a 32mm one from Halfords, turned out it wasn't that tight when I came to take the sprocket off, but made sure it was bloody tight when I put the new one on!!
I'm sure Luke meant 32mm too unless he has made a new mod recently  :b

That's what I thought and was prepared for Luke, but it's bigger. At a glance 34 or 36mm..? Could this be bigger on US imports??

I was hoping I could loosen it by hand after I'd flattened the washer tabs..but alas the bugger is still decently tight!

off to FZ1oA to have a look see there

I have this niggling feeling that the 36mm socket I require is in a box which is packed right the way up the back of the garage under about 8 tons of other shit!!

ARSE! :'(

Did mine last year, pretty sure it's 38mm.

|Just looked in the workshop manual, unfortunatley no help it just says the thread is M22 and torque it up to 85 Nm. I know I said 32mm earlier but noiw reckon 36mm may be the right size, sorry for mis-info :(

Defo a 36mm for 2001 Gen 1 UK spec. Biggest one in my socket set was 32mm and was too small so had to buy one from a local motor shop.
Just been in the shed and dug it out of the toolbox to make sure ;)
Not sure if its smaller on later models but cant see it tbh.

Definitely 36mm I had to go buy one yesterday. I jammed the back wheel and got a metre long wrench on it. Guess what? it was only finger tight, thank god for the tab washer. It was the original sprocket, only done 25000 miles it was well worn out.
