can someone identify this ticking noise.
« on: 02 July 2024, 08:05:36 am »
Hi,

I recently did  a DIY job on my motorcycle splitting the engine case and replacing second gear on my fzs1000. All went well and now i can dry my bike again woop woop.
However i'm having an unknown ticking sound. Maybe a bolt is loose, or is that the sound of cam chain rattle, or something worse? please advise. It's worse coming off throttle which would suggest cam chain, but there's just also alot more vibration when you release throttle...so i'm not sure.

I think I’d be getting the rocker cover back off and see what’s going on. Hopefully nothing too major.

First thing that came to mind is there's a known issue where the plug that sits in the centre of the assembly pops out, so could be worth taking the cover off to make sure everything's OK.

What cover exactly?

and the rocker cover...that hasn't come off...didn't do nothing with the cams etc... So i wouldn't suspect anything there?

DOH'T - Sorry the clutch cover, there should be a plug in the middle of the assembly.

Have you checked where the sounds is coming from exactly, as in take a long screwdriver and place it against parts of the engine and then your ear against the end of the screwdriver handle... - like a stethascope.

Otherwise take it to a indipendant one man motorcycle mechaic and get him/her to listen to it.
