Any of you fine chaps out there found an easy, cheap way to remove rust from bolt heads, footrest, brackets etc?  My 600's looking a bit sad in a few places from the daily commute!

OK, helpful reply if you must.  Ypu'll need to take them off and then buff them up on a wire wheel in a bench grinder or, if you are a cheapskate and don't have a fully equipped workshop, clamp your power drill in a vice with a wire wheel in it and do it that way.  If you don't have a vice, buy some new ones.  But be careful how you hold them, a wire wheel will remove fingerprints very quickly......

Noticed a couple of of rust patches on the frame under the head stock, thinking of Hammerite smoothright black to cover it over,,,

Once they've gone they'll go again, 'specially if you take the anti rust surface off with a wire brush.... Replace with stainless is the only real answer. Nooj may be able to supply.

I did the cheap version on the project bike  - dremmel (well lidl copy of a dremmel)  with polishing / sanding bit. I did mine on the bike for the most part taking a few off when I couldn't get to them easily and them screwed them into a bolt held in a vice grips  stood on (safety first!). I appreciate that they will go rusty again quicker than stainless but its not always easy to find an exact match in hardware shops and my local fastener shop only opens during the week when I am at work. (if you must get stainless that is the best place to get them though)

Wire wool and WD40 brought even the most scummy parts of my VFR back to good nick.  Leave a coating of WD40 to help stem future corrosion.

I have the Aldi Dremmel as well will give that a go- I think I will leave the bits on the bike as all my spanners are left handed and then Hammerite the finished article.... oh for a bike lift!... and a shed I can work in for that matter
