hi im looking at a new set of tyres, currently looking at Conti road attack 2 & Michelin road 4, quite a big difference in price. What are your thoughts & any recommendations please.

I have recently fitted Michelin road 5's. In my opinion much better than the 4's

I'm on my 3rd rear, 2nd front, using Metzeler Roadtec 01's. More than happy with them, not cheap but will certainly stick with them when it's tyre time again.

Go for the cheaper ones!

For most riders the difference is minimal, but if you read all the different tyre threads you'l get far more opinions than you want or need; all of the major manufacturers make decent road tyres and it's all down to whether the small profile differences suit your riding style.

FWIW I've got Metzeler Z8 Interacts fitted to my Gen1 and I've got on well with them, but I've had Michelins and Contis before and they've been OK too.

(In my opinion) nothing beats Michelin Pilot Roads in the wet. I've had PR2s, 3s and 4s. Looking forward to the 5s.

Yeh Michelin pilot are the top dog of tyres these days.
Ran a set of road 4's January to June, have run the power rs's this summer and they are superb. Got a set of road 5's on the spare wheels ready for when the weather gets really bad. The power rs's have been rock solid in all this torrential rain recently though.

Pilot Road X's are well worth the money.

I am currently running conti-motions on the Fazer, a much more 'budget' tyre. 3k in and they have been absolutely fine so far, wet and dry. Not quite as good as PR X's in heavy rain, but that is reflected in the price (getting on half the price of road 5's). It really depends on what you want out of the tyres for the price. Long last commuting? Sport touring? Good weather scratching?

I've got Michelin PR2s on my gen2 third set, never had a problem (sticks like s**t to a blanket wet or dry)

Mitas release some new touring tyres this year. Their own Sport Force model had some good reviews. Maybe worth a try on these ones? Their price is tasty too.

If you can hold on for a month (or even for future reference) MCN have just mentioned a Dutch newcomer coming to the motorcycle tyre market in January - Vredestein Centauro. To quote MCN:
There are two pieces of good news here: the tyres will be cheaper than the latest new offerings from the established brands when they go on sale early next year and after testing them in perfect sports touring tyre conditions – slimy December UK roads, they perform admirably. Might be worth adding to future tyre shortlists if they perform well and are indeed sensibly priced....

I always used to go for expensive sports tourers,Michelin,Conti,Metzeler etc,got talking to a tyre guy at a club meeting at Mallory a few years ago and he said most bikes on the road were "over tyred" with these tyres on them,he reckoned only a very good rider would find the limit on even a middle of the road tyre on the road and to push name brand tyres to the limit would test the ground clearance of most sports bikes anyway.I've been on these tyres for years now,not "budget"tyres but good middle of the road ones and apart from having enough grip,for example on my bike when the pegs scrape that'll do me, they also last a lot longer.

Tyres and oil threads are all about opinions. Just put a set of Maxxis on the ZZR which I got from Newark show for £95 for a front + rear and they’re more than good enough for me!

I have had many makes of tyres over the years but for year round use and long wear life with superb wet grip Michelin Road 5s .
The 4s are good but the fronts feather and make a lot of noise after a while .

bridgestone bt016s for me all day long. especially if its a cold wet slippery day lol. soft tyre walls work brilliantly with the suspension as well as putting a good footprint down, and £130-£140 a pair off e bay.

Roadsmart 3 s for me ... on both the Tiger Sport and Fazer and at Ron Haslam's race school as it happens. Excellent wet or dry and good mileage on them too (6k)

PR5 on the rear, still good, sticks to the ground like glue. New PR5 on the front from next year, also new suspension front an rear and shoul be a blast

Not that I'll change from Roadtec 01's, I did read a Michelin article the other day that claimed a half worn PR5 will outperform a brand new PR4, such was their confidence in the latest model.

I wouldn't trust that. I think you can feel on your own, when a tyre is worn out, at least I do
