What downpipes are these?
« on: 20 May 2019, 09:50:27 pm »
Can anyone tell me what downpipes these are in the picture? I have a set on my bike which were on when I bought it, but the mounting hole at the back seems way out of line with the mounting hole on the frame.

They look identical to mine which would make them motads.

OK thanks, you cant tell from the picture but there are no link pipes between 1-2 and 3-4. Does anyone else have any alignment problems with theirs?

I got a set from Sandy Bike Spares that didn't have the link pipe and the bracket for the footrest didn't line up, I think I ended up cutting the hole to turn it into an open ended slot.  They will have been early Chinese copies, Sandy Bike Spares are now Black Widow Exhausts but the current ones they offer are different with separate header pipes and collector box.  I think the ones I had had a larger connector pipe than standard that meant the end can fitted directly on without the gasket

No link pipes, they are not Motad, as Jules-C says my guess would be Sandybikes or old style Blackwidow when previously sold as one piece, as these have clearly be designed to fit the original endcan/linkpipe to original downpipes. They also might be Lextek as they look the same as.

I think you're right Jules- the pipes look identical to mine apart from the mounting bolt slot, which is just a hole on my set.

The end can uses the standard gasket to fit on my downpipes, however I took the downpipes off tonight and there were 8 gaskets between the headers and the engine. I expect this will account for some (or hopefully all) of my alignment issue.

They look similar to a set I fitted to my 5DMC...I had a bit of trouble lining up the bracket with the mounting bolt... a bit of force involved but I got them on OK...cargo straps are great for pulling things into line :lol
