Front Tyre Question
« on: 18 May 2018, 02:20:18 pm »
Afternoon all,

a friend of mine recommend the metzeler roadtec 01 tyres.

http://www.metzeler.com/site/uk/en/products/tyres-catalogue/Roadtec-01

It says at the bottom of that page they do a looks like they do a 110/70 - 17 M/C 54H TL, which would be great.

However, it looks like an ADV version? And it doesn't have the normal speed rating, what do you guys reckon, would it be different profile or unsafe to use?

Cheers,

Interesting, when I last put a Roadtec 01 on my Fazer, I was told there was no option of 110/70 for the front. Went for the M7RR on front instead. Not ideal to go for mismatched, but the pair have performed well nonetheless. So, if this is now an option, that's good to know.

Google it and look at the images. It looks like a different tyre, like a big adventure touring skinny tyre.  So although it fits, and has enough of a speed rating, could the profile be significantly different?

Its almost like they are selling it under the same brand name but from a different mold for a different application.

Thoughts?

Jbizzle, post a link for the images you are seeing. I cant find anything other than motorcycle tyres (the m/c in the size means this).

The size 110/70 - 17 M/C 54H TL breaks down like this.

110 - The width of the tyre
70 - 70% of the width is the profile
17 - The rim size
m/c - motorcycle specific
54 - the load rating (the code for the weight it can take )
H - The speed rating
TL - Tubeless

H rated is up to 130mph.

H rating isn't high enough for a Fazer the rating should be ZR or Z over 149mph H is too low.
Yamaha state ZR as OE, it's possible if you are involved in a RTC your insurance company might well claim the bike isn't as designed and use it as an excuse not to pay or withdraw your cover.

Yeah, the only reason it stuck in my mind was 'cos my old NTV was H rated. I've only ever bought ZR for this bike.
On the subject of insurance, without meaning to go astray, i paid for a renewal earlier today and they said as my bike is classed as garaged at night if anything happens to it within 500 metres of my home and it's not garaged then they won't pay out. So if i want to stop at the local shop on the way home from work i suddenly have invalid insurance if it's nicked?

http://www.metzeler.com/site/uk/products/tyres-catalogue/Roadtec-01.html

Metzeler's site shows quite a different tread pattern from front to rear version of Roadtec 01.
And they list the 110/70 54H. No ZR in this size...

From the link

The Metzeler Roadtec 01 X-Ply is designed for lightweight and classic motorcycles,

Added to the lack of the ZR tyre tells me enough to say not to fit this tyre to a Fazer
