carb diaphragm screws

Hi Gents has anyone had any luck removing the black plastic vac chamber covers to access the diaphragms? Carb no 2 isn't sliding as well as I'd like, as usual they're the typical Yamaha cross-head screws made of cheese.

just give them a good dose of plusgas or similar long before you try to remove them
half the problem isnt the screws its the screwdrivers used - they are J.I.S screws and not phillips like most people have
J.I.S screwdrivers (japanese industrial standard) are not a common find in toolboxes although on my want list

Vessel(one of Japans oldest tool manufacturers) Megadora, 3 piece J.I.S screwdriver set on Amazon £22.70. It's odd that Philips won't work on j.i.s. screws but the Vessel drivers work on Philips. All the small grub screws on Shimano pushbike gears, use these.

Tom,
You might get more screwdrivers in the Hozan set, but for quality those by Vessel are like chalk'n'cheese. There again it depends on how much use they'll get, a bit like B&Q's own make and Snap On for example. Handy to have in your toolbox either way.

I've an old under seat screwdriver from a Kawa from years ago I'm going to give it a try with this.( I don't have a Fazer set  ).
I've ordered a set of Megadora, I've been struggling with jap crosshead screws on bikes for years!

i picked up a set of cheap hammer through screwdrivers on ebay (solid grey case, blue handles) about 12 of them
and they are the closest i have found to work on bike screws but it was pure luck if im honest with ya.

The JIS screws have a small indent punched into the head so you can tell them apart from Phillips head. If you have the original tool kit that came with the bike there will be a JIS screwdriver in it

I have a set of screw driver bits. Has every Philips head you can think of. I'm pretty anal about getting the right size bot to match the screw.

I have the OEM tool kit and there is a handle that takes the shafts and there are two shafts 1 has a small JIS and a small flat head on the other end and the other has a large JIS and a large flat head. Stupid that I have never used them - thinking they were not as good as my own screwdrivers because the kit ones look cheap what an idiot I have been rounding off screwheads for 17 years owning the bike and I was only 2 feet away from the proper too all the time
