Bar end removal
« on: 29 March 2012, 09:19:59 am »
Any thoughts on how to remove a seized bar end? The hex screw has seized and now has been rounded off, i was thinking of just hacksawing it off just at the space between it and the handle bars. But will it all come out or will bits of it still be up inside the handle bars. Or is drilling the screw out the easier option.

As I recall there isn't a hex screw as such, the bar end is solid with a hex indent to facilitate screwing in/out.

So if the bar end is a right off already you could attempt removing it by just trying to unscrew the whole bar end - mole grips etc.

If this fails then hacksawing off the end and drilling out what remains is possibly the next best approach.

You can try stilsons, but you might need new bar ends after. I used some with a bit of emery to protect the bar end.
