cleaning fazer shiney engine ?
« on: 26 March 2012, 10:58:08 pm »
right so i have seen alot of fazers with really glossy nice showroom looking engines, the question is how to you get them like that, shoe polish wax etc.
i can get mine looking good but some look like they have just been painted.
im really hoping these fazers arnt owned by sunday rider but are owned by commuters

so if anyone knows how or any other cleaning tips (getting brake calipers to a newish black not a greyish black)

thanks

Try "back to black"  cockpit shine stuff by Simonez. its brilliant stuff. Engine, frame ,wheels, mirrors, switchgear, cables...but not on the grips or the seat.  the shine lasts for ages and cleans off no problem.

I just spray WD40 on and leave it over night. You will get some funny looks from the tin can brigade when you stop at the lights and all smoke from the WD40 burning off  the engine rises up.
Cover the tyres, discs, footrests, grips levers and seat and spray away. I wipe it of the tank and plastics but leave it drip off the engine, Stops rust on the frame welds and fairing bracket also
You can buy  WD40 in 5 litre drum and it comes with a refillable spray bottle.

I use acf50, similar effect to wd40 but I think it's better at preventing corrosion/rust. Shiny and lasts longer but a bit pricey.

As for calipers, I use Wurth's chain and brake cleaner

Winter protection ACF50-expensive but a little goes a long way. General all year round EXCEPT Tyres& Brakes! GT85 spray-far better than WD40. I buy mine on special offer @ Halfords.Regular washing/drying/spraying works wonders-very little corrosion on my engine cases after 9 winters-rest looks like new
