Engine rattle/rumble on 2000
« on: 03 August 2017, 01:18:47 pm »
Hi I met up with a friend who has the exact same bike as me and I was amazed at how much smoother and quieter his engine was, I don't know what to do to mine to make it sound so good. Mine "chugs" a bit on tickover and there is a rattle coming from below the camshaft. The thing is, mines only done 10,000 miles and his has done over 40k. I know my carb rubbers were replaced last year. Regular oil changes etc. Standard exhaust (he has aftermarket sports)
Sorry if this seems a dumb question, hoping someone has had the same problem.

idle speed it too low on both. Should be 1250rpm.

Also, after doing the rubbers, did you balance the carbs?

could also be the camchain adjuster is about to adjust another click - might just sort itself in a few hundred miles
i cant recall one ever siezing up and not adjusting on a fazer but its always a possibility especially as its a 2k and only done 10k so not had much oil fired around it
-how do people only do 10k in 17 years - i do 15k+ a year (but dont tell my insurance company)

I have just sold my CBF1000 and bought an FZS600 to replace it. I only did 5K in 7 years on that.

Mine's done 45k and sounds exactly like your mate's and nothing like yours...maybe the tone changes with age as more parts wear in?

Is that what they bury knackered exhausts in? :)

Hi

borrowed my neighbours Carbtune and balanced the carbs yesterday, this was before:

idles better now (increased to 1250 rpm)

Still got a clonky noise though, not as smooth as mates !
