Bike dies when trying to start.....
« on: 21 July 2017, 06:09:36 pm »
Hello again!

well, my little donkey Fazer was a victim of the current Edinburgh bike thefts last week.

thankfully, I managed to get it found and returned to me.

the little scrotes snipped all the ignition wires in order to jump start the bike... and rode it away.

when it was recovered, it could still be jump started and ridden..

I've now had all the ignition wires re-connected (matching the colour tracers in the wires) and a big 30 amp fuse replaced.

however, when you hit the starter button, the bike doesn't start, it doesn't even crank.

you can hear the fuel pump working, the battery is fine...

all that happens is the fuel light and oil light come on.... they are not lit up along with the N light when you turn the bike on.

so I'm a bit lost...... has anyone got any ideas?!?!?!

Isn't that what happens when the kill switch circuit/switch is broken? The lights come on the dash, but nothing happens when you push the start button.

Is it in gear? Sounds like it thinks it is. You could try grounding the neutral switch and see if the light comes on. Or maybe there's a connector under the tank that came undone.

side stand switch and clutch switch seem the likely culprits

someone has already mentioned this but it just happened this morning
kickstand up, in gear so clutch in, press start and nothing but lights on the dash
instantly remembered this thread so took notice of what i did instead of just doing and forget
kill switch off, kill switch on, press button and off she went
my guess is that the contacts in the kill switch are showing there age (i know that feeling)
if you have an electrical tester you can check for continuity changes over the wires which i think are red and red with black tracer
just remember to unplug the connector so you are only checking the switch
