Bloody oil filter

 thought I would do an oil and filter change to save money , can I get the filter off ?  no way tried loads of tools on it , so ff it has gone to the guy who put the last one on !!   grrrrrr  so much for saving money

In the past I have hammered a screw driver through and used that to turn the filter. Better still buy a proper tool from Halfords for a few quid to get it off.

I think halfords sell an oil filter 3/8s socket for a £5 or so that will fit on the end of the filter.

realy simple to use and gets the filter off with no effort at all.
i didnt get mine from ebay i got it from local dealer for around £5-6 but that shows you it.
also fits my daughters er5 which is a bonus

I have the Honda Oil Filter Wrench ... it fits all sorts .. including the Gen 1 
 
Honda Part Number is 07HAA-PJ70100  .. been in use for about ten years now .. never failed yet.
 
It can be seen 'in use' on Pats Page    and I think that says it all.

Yup I use the same thing on the bike as ghostbiker, works a treat.

In the past I have hammered a screw driver through and used that to turn the filter.

That used to be the way I got em all off.  Till I bought a 3 year old VW Bora with 6000 miles on the clock.  Don't think it had ever had an oil and filter change.  The dealer gave it a 'service' before I picked it up.  But I reckon they just sucked the oil out and stuck some fresh stuff in, either that or the apprentice stuck the filter on and torqued it to buggery.

But anyway, stuck my screwdriver through it and it started opening up like a tin of sardines.  Eventually got the remains of the filter off with one of these - http://http://www.drapertools.com/b2c/b2citmdsp.pgm?pp_skmno=37871&ipadd=    Great if you can get em in.

Was lucky, thought I would have to remove the oil cooler to get the filter off.

Never stuck a screwdriver through an oil filter since.

I've got one of those but it did round off the end of the filter on a cacky ZZR I was servicing. Like VNA I was loathe to recourse to stabbing it with a screwdriver as this can be disastrous. In the end I prised off the tool and drilled two opposite holes in the side of it to take a large woodscrew/selftapper then bashed the tool back on and screwed in the woodscrews each side. First heave on the breaker bar got the bastard loose enough to spin off.

I've also had one of these round the filter off - I'm sure it's no coincidence that that filter had been put on by hte gorrillas at the garage! Never been a problem when I've done hte filter myself...

thanks Luke you know me too well LOL I will get one of those tools for the next time , as for this time my local garage came up trumps , they fitted the last one anyway
