Dartford Crossing Toll Charge Question
« on: 27 June 2017, 05:08:30 am »
Is it possible to pay the toll charge in advance at a Payzone Terminal that's local to me before I travel, or does the charge have to be paid after having made the crossing?.
Traveling by car.

Many thanks in anticipation :)

looking at the website
https://www.dartford-crossing-charge.service.gov.uk/Home/Choose
you can set up a pay as you go option... depends on how often you intend yo use it but even if you only use it once, set it up then cancel after an period of time!?

just  my advice but have never used it!

I have only used it once (well twice if you count the return trip) since it changed but the website suggests you can pay in advance on-line.

Cheers for the replies.

I've just found the actual Payzone web site and it says you can pay at one of their outlets in advance of travelling OR afterwards. Sorted :)

fuckem they should have manned booths they used to, I have a french registered car, I have on occasion forgotten to pay, I usually do but I have never had any notification for none payment. They make a bloody fortune out of that crossing so why not keep some toll booths and give somebody a job?

Because all the halfwits in foreign registered vehicles ( :pokefun ) will clog up the motorway again. this is why they did away with the booths to get traffic flowing.

eaxactly hahahha, they made about 130 folk redundant to get rid of the booths, so they are saving that way, did they lower the cost of using the crossings, doubt it. Then like me you have to go on the hunt for a payzone load of bollocks it was to makemore money by saving on wages. Last few times I have been through 4 times this yearI do not notice any difference.

:agree

Don't bother with the payzone bollocks though, just go on-line and do it.

That is all very well if you have the internet available, I have an Orange french phone you do well if you can get a phone signal in the uk never mind trying tolog on with the net. It is not a problem in any other country I have been to inside the EU just the UK mobile phone networks around Wirral is shite.

Going to get a bit cynical now.

When there were manned booths, everyone had to pay the £1.50 (in a car).
Now, everyone except people with weird number plates - foreign etc, has to pay , but, if they don't pay within a certain time limit they have to pay a fine about £50 I think. Which means that they charge everyone the same money (except a very few people), but quite a few get charged a shitload more. The weird number plate people, some will be traced and will also have to pay the fine. Result - they make more money.

When there were manned booths, they had to employ workers to man the booths.
Now they don't need them, no pensions, no employer tax contributions, no sick pay obligations. Result - they make more money.

Plus, wasn't there an agreement that once the QE11 bridge was paid for by the money the tolls generated, the crossing would be free, to ease the traffic flow? The government welched on this deal once the cost of the bridge was met, because of the revenue generated by it. Didn't they then sell it to a private company for a massive price therefore ensuring that it would always cost money to cross?

Bastards the lot of them.

Just for info, I only have to use the crossing about 10 times a year, I just feel sorry for the poor people who have to use it every day.
