Suspension preload
« on: 06 March 2017, 04:24:42 pm »
Apologies if this has been asked 1000 times, but I'm after a bit of help.I bought a FZS600 over the weekend from someone who was about 5 foot 8 and maybe 11 stone. I'm 6 foot 1 and 13 stone. He had the bike setup with 2 notches showing above the nut on the front:

And I'm not sure of the rear as I believe it to be an after market spring:

Two questions:

1) What would be the affect of me being taller and heavier and riding with the front preload of 2 notches instead of the recommended 5
2) Can anyone identify (or tell me how to identify) the setting of the rear spring from the above picture?Cheers,Ben

two on the front is harder so should suit you better as for the rear that a  top quality shock just ride it and see if it feel soft harden it up if not enjoy it

Fork adjusters are nothing short of useless to be honest.
Changing the oil from 10w to 15w oil firms up the front end considerably.

Yes that's a nice unit, race quality stuff! Check out the Nitron website, I'm sure they'll have a pdf manual for you to download fella.  :)

Cheers for the info guys. I had no idea that the rear shock was that good! I'll have to try and find it and see how much it was (just out of interest).

The guy I bought it off had these other two bikes in the garage:

So he was definitely in to his bikes. Doesn't surprise me that he'd splash out on good rear suspension.
