Computer help required

I've some how managed to increase the size of my desk top so that I can barely see the lower icons (speakers, internet connection etc) and web pages are also to wide etc

I've looked at screen size etc and the computer says I have the right settings for my monitor, so why can I not see it all

Do I need to use the F keys and alt and or control or something similar.

Ignore what the computer tells you is right, try resetting the resolution to something smaller.

What are you running windows 10? if so look at your tool bar, you should see top right ... (3 dots) left click and a drop down menu should appear 3rd line down you should see ZOOM - ???%+ say- 200%+ if you left click on the - sign you should be able to get a setting that suits you, my setting looks like this - 125%+ hope this helps

Just adjusted the res, icons now huge and wallpaper off the sides of the screen.
Zoom in out not possible as three bars you mentioned are off the side of the screen still.

I get the same if I connect my lap top to the HD TV, I lose nearly all the icons on the extremities of the lap top desktop also the edges of any movies I play.

If your tv is set as Auto Aspect Ratio, it may set itself to the wrong one when connecting your computer, depending on its resolution.
Try changing it to one of the manual settings (e.g. 16:9, 4:3 etc.) and you should be able to get the whole desktop on the screen.

Thats exactly what I did, I'd had issues with my keyboard so used the monitor as a TV and must have changed the screen size not realising the problems it would cause me when going online, sorted now, but was a little frustrating trying to work out what I'd done to cause the issue

If it's a newish tv there'll be an adjustment in the settings to correct that, but i found that it will then be wrong when you want to watch normal tv, so it will need switching back againonce you've finished.
Invest in a Chromecast gadget (unless your tv has built in Wi-Fi) and it will sort all that out for you wirelessly.
Also if you have an Android phone or tablet then your options to watch free stuff suddenly become huge.

Forget all this Black Friday nonsense, if you want a decent tv get a refurbished one from a well known manufacturer and you'll get a massively good deal which will save you a fortune, all guaranteed.
I think i paid about £400 for my refurbed 40" 4K tv.

Personal opinion, from someone who deals with high end monitors on a daily basis in the film industry......Panasonic.


I'm a lot fussier than the majority of people, 'cos my job entails providing the likes of Ridley Scott, etc, with a decent picture to look at, so i'm even fussier at home for my own use.
Problem with buying a tv is that you'll never ever know how good it is until it's in your home.
Add to the fact if you even attempt to go and look in a shop you'll be met by a hundred tv's on display with a terrible feed into them, apart from the one in the dark corner with the BluRay animated film being shown around the clock, which will stand out like a dick in a room full of lesbians.
Refurbed Grade A tv's will have any flaws fixed, will be 40% cheaper than normal, and still be guaranteed, it's the way to go.


Setting up the picture on a tv/monitor is hugely important as well, it amazes me how some people will just take it out of the box and not touch any settings at all thinking all is normal......it ain't.
Take time and slowly go through EVERY setting, and don't be sucked into gimmicky extras on tv's, as sometimes they'll look much better when switched off.
