Blood Bikes
« on: 14 March 2012, 08:50:33 pm »
The Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes is forced to meet rising fuel prices year on year. NABB's single biggest running cost is fuel.
NABB not only save the NHS considerable monies, they provide a much needed out of hours medical essentials courier service, free of charge - entirely run by volunteers and charitable donations.

Allowing NABB member groups to recoup fuel duty would be of major benefit and allow NABB to expand it's vital service operations.
We call on the government to have an urgent review of this situation and in doing so we call on the government to return in the form of grants to NABB member groups all the future fuel duty which the Treasury collects from them.

There is a similar petition because the Air Ambulances also get charged VAT on fuel, even though Lifeboats don't.

Since many bikers have benefitted from the Air Ambulance service, it's well worth our while supporting them:

For those of you wanting to know how to join, try logginging onto the NABB website - Bloodbikes.org.uk

You should be able to register an interest which will be forwarded to your local group who will, if they operate the same way we do in Devon, get in touch with details of how the charity operates. If you are still interested, you will be sent an induction pack and details of who your area co-ordinator is. In Devon, we will meet up with prospective members for a chat to find out a bit about you and to answer any questions you may have about us. You will also need to do a check ride to make sure you are up to the standards we require. Upon completion of the induction process you will be issued with an ID card, high-viz vest and job pad. I alsways take a prospective member on a couple of jobs so that they can see how to do things before we unleash them on the big bad world.

For anyone in Devon that may be interested, give me a call on 0777 587 5237 for a chat.
