Good battery brand?

Just wondering which brands of battery are considered to be best? I've never bought one and they all sound Chinese to me haha

Most recent 2 that I've bought have been 'Yuasa'. They have always been well regarded, but the original fitment 'GS' battery lasted ages.

here we go again, i had a yussa with the bike it lasted about two years,  then a mottobat about 3 months.     so back on yussa still going great after after two years.    ,    everyone has a different opinion.

I just replaced my battery with the same Varta one again, i like the higher amps on it.

Dynavolt seems to be cropping up quite a bit too? Also what's people's thoughts on gel or lithium batteries? Worth the extra cost?

I deal with a lot of batteries at work, and i can't for one minute imagine Lithium batteries enjoying cold weather, or being sat around for periods of time.
Look for higher cranking ampage.

Yuasa are good. I've also fitted an Exide battery in the past and it was good too (and cheap).

I have recently bought the Numax from Tanya Batteries...came next day. I was replacing a two year old failed Motobatt. I paid £36.25 delivered....a fraction of what you're considering at halfords....I think with batteries it can be lucky or unlucky.....but I can get a new one if it fails.

I got motobatt on all three bikes. They definitely give higher amp starting, crucial on the old Harley as the starter gear fails if it's not being pushed by a good strong battery. Never had to use an optimate on any of them either, though I'm not sure if they would need a dedicated motobatt charger if I did

Just bought a dynavolt last week.  M&P are selling  motobatt trickle chargers on ebay for less than twenty quid too, I bought a baby boy trickle charger for 18. 99 to keep the battery topped up

That would be false economy then?
Why not get a decent one in the first place that is unlikely to fail?

Yeah I was told by my mechy that you need special chargers for motobatt batteries. Don't know why though? Do they have special terminals or something?

I have the Oxford solar optimiser. Has always done the job and best of all its free to use. Just stuck it on the side of the garage in view of the sun and the wire plugs into a little socket on the side of the bike. Think it was £30 so cheap enough too

Shouldn't need a special charger for a Motobatt, they're just an AGM type battery just like any others. The ones you do need a special charger for are Lithium ones, like Shorai. They can be fried with a standard optimate or the like.


I think the reason a lot of people think Motobatts need a special charger is because they make their own and probably try to sell you one when you buy a battery from them
