Which tyres are good for loose ground which fit 98-03 FZS600?
« on: 11 September 2016, 07:31:05 pm »
Hi,
Question here for 98-03 Fazer owners who live in places where road surfaces are not good requiring a deeper tyre tread which is better on loose ground than sport touring tyres are?

Obviously a single cylinder bike would be the bike of choice but have any Fazer owners maybe in countries around the world fitted tyres which can grip well on loose ground at slow ish speeds?
Sure - such tyres wouldn't have the speed rating that Yamaha intends for Fazer 600s so higher speed riding would be out.
Anyone from around the globe deviated from the normal tyre choice?

Tyres like that are designed more for off road.
When used on road they will be very noisy, and slow the bike down due to drag on the surface.
What do you class as "loose" ground anyway?

Not to mention the wear rate  :)

Or wet roads, slippy as hell.
Had the same issue years ago with a KMX i had, once road tyres were put on it it handled so much nicer, and quieter.

The Heidenaus are not too bad in the wet and they're fine in the dry. They do loads of miles and are excellent value for money. I don't get much road noise and there are no vibrations. Also they're quite cheap too !!

gravel roads/gravel tracks

Yes that brand does quite a few different choices. 120 width tyre size for the front over what should be 110 for this bike opens up a big choice of tyres. But my thinking was that as these bikes are designed for sport touring tyres then sticking to 110 width on the front is preferable seeing as we're deviating from Yamaha's intended tyre type.

If I was fitting off road tyres to a Fazer personally I wouldnt be worrying that much bout a 120 front.. You're already deviating into areas that Yamaha didnt intend for the bike  :)

What about clearance with nobblies?  To the mudguard etc?

I wonder how the geometry compares to off-road bikes.
