Usb or cigarette lighter power
« on: 22 July 2016, 09:59:15 pm »
Hi, I have the 2003 fox eye model, carb
I'm thinking of putting a USB onto bike, or cigarette style power outlet. anyone got any ideas or pics of where to position it ?
Also do I connect direct to battery, because if I do, the USB/ cigarette power light will ALWAYS be on, so how do I get round this ? Any replies gladly appreciated, cheers Roy.

I'm sure if you do a search on here, you'll see some photos of where people have installed them into the top section of the bikini fairing.

I have a cigarette attachment on mine which is wired straight to the battery. While nothing is plugged into it there will be no drain on the battery unless you have one with a little light on it. Mine is not actually attached to the bike, but loose on a longish wire and lives under my seat. It has a waterproof connecter in the middle of the wires so I can disconnect it if I want. It only gets used if I go touring, for my sat nav, or with a usb adapter to charge my phone.
In this case I just run the wire out under the seat and have the adapter in my tank bag.

I can't remember if I got all the bits from maplins or online?!

Best of both worlds, get one that has both a usb and cigarette in , thats what I did. Plenty on ebay.

I have mine in the left infill panel of the fairing.
It is wired direct to the battery with an in-line fuse.
My sat-nav plug tends to work its way out hence the rubber band you can see in the photo which I slip over the plug to hold it in. The sat-nav plug takes a usb connector if I wanted that.
You can connect it so that it is only live when the ignition is switched on but others will know where the best place to connect to is.
Should mention mine is a boxeye so a little different and the bracket with the little hooks for the elastic band is something I made myself.
