fork component interchangeability?!
« on: 22 June 2016, 02:30:44 pm »
My front fork has developed a bit or a knock or play, it's hard to describe.

Anyway, I've picked up another set of forks to switch them over.

The knackered set on my bike have preload adjusters
The older pair I've just got don't have preload adjusters (older?).

Is it possible to swap the preload adjusters over to the good fork? Or are a lot of the internals different?

Thank you,

Brett

You can swap them over, but I had a similar scenario and bought older forks without adjusters, and didn't feel the need to do it.
Had no issues whatsoever, as the adjusters were always turned right in at the firmest point anyway, anything other than that and I felt they were pretty useless.
15w oil, instead of 10w, is what made all the difference, that's a must.

Is it definitely the forks you're getting a knock from and not either the head race bearings being knackered or even the brake pads moving in the calipers!? (two easy things to check)
