Hello All

Im currently riding a Tiger 800 and quite honestly I dont get on with it, I did own a T reg FZS600 for a few years and loved it

So here I am wanting a late FZ1 and not quite sure of what to look out for?

So are there any "common problems" I need to look out for please?

Most sellers are honest bikers but I dont want come come up against Mr dodgy and have the wool pulled over my eyes.

Oh should have said, Im looking for a 2008 onwards faired gen2

They seem to be a sound bike, I have had my 57 plate 3 years, no probs,25,000miles.

Of course everything can be improved, rear shock is one, seat another, no different to other bikes.
So standard bike or find one modded

Great choice of bike. There isn't much from memory that does go wrong with them. Just check for the usual things and you can't go wrong.
The fuel range won't be as good as your current bike but the smiles per miles will be greatly increased

I saw one in Newbury yesterday when I was lurking for bits and pieces that looked ok from a distance but, I never looked close at it to see what it was actually like.

Thank you for your replies, there was a great one down in Bridgend but someone beat me to it, the swine lol.

Nice to see they don't have any major issues, the only thing ive been warned about is the EXUP valve and to make sure its working.

Cant wait to get a Fazer again.

Can you tell us more about why you don't get on with the Tiger? (and which Tiger do you ride?). I would have said the FZ1S is as different from the Tiger as it is from the FZS600

I know its a strange journey isnt it... tbh ive had a zzr1100, sp1, diversion 900 and others ive forgotten probably but I always liked my Fazer so maybe im being nostalgic lol

TBH its good, really reliable and cheap to run but I dont think the 19 inch front wheel helps, and god help the 21 inch on the xc version.

I like the corners too much

I had one of these about 4 years ago, very nice bike but found the fuelling very snatcy. Did all the mods possible other than buying a power commander and never really cured it properly. I've gone 'back' to a gen1 and love it to bits. Well worth taking for a test ride before buying especially, as I found it most snatchy at lower speeds around town.

If you'd have fitted a fuel cut eliminator and a Power Commander then had it set up on a Dyno with a custom fuel map, you would have noticed a huge difference.

I did fit the Ivan's fuel cut eliminator but it got to the point where I thought why should I spend all this extra money on something Yamaha should have sorted from the factory.

Fueling sorted on fz1 after 07.ive had a 08 and 09 both were great bikes with no fueling problems and neither ever missed a beat.

Mine was a 2010 model on a 12 plate, and even the dealer agreed it was snatchy. Like I said apart from the low speed snatchiness it was a great bike and never missed a beat. I've had numerous fuel injected bikes over the years and the 2 bikes that had the most snatchy fuelling were my XT660 and the gen 2 fzs. Give me carbs any day!

My 08 is spot on.

I've ridden the new Tracer a couple of times and found that snatchy even though the dealers claim there fine and the problem only exists with the early MT09's. Seems it can be a Yam trait

Dont worry about the exup valve....just take it out....on the gen 2 they are basically just for noise purposes.
