Hid bulbs
« on: 07 March 2016, 08:37:04 pm »
I'm thinking of fitting hid lights to my fox eye 2003 bike. As seen some yesterday, and they look fab. Has anyone fitted them, and if yes, where's the best place to get them from. They are the h4 bulbs aren't they on my model ??
Cheers for any reply.😁😁😁😁

You can't just fit bulbs HID is a completely different system you need ballasts.  Do a search and there is loads of detail about what you need, they're quite simple to fit if your ok with working on bike electrical system, they're pretty much plug and play.

Where did you get hids from ?
I'd need 2 with ballasts , white light not the blue one.
Bikes only done 6,000 miles on a 03 plate.  :)

Did you have to take the headlight unit apart to fit the HID projectors? Seen a youtube video on fitting HID projectors on the foyeye model where they heat the light unit to soften the glue that holds the front 'glass' to the rear plastic before fitting projectors.

That's right, Sannox. In the oven, low temperature, and work up. The silicone softens around 80℃, then using a screwdriver and patience, you can remove the lenses. :)

yeah stick the headlight in the oven after removing all the metal tabs and stuff, shut the door and low heat, half a gas mark for about 10 minutes, check it now and then to see if the glues softening, grab some gloves and decent sized screwdrivers, split the unit.

i put h1 bulbs in both sides as they didn't require me to make the left side much bigger.

dremel the left side out so it fits.

fit the rubber on the projector
push it through
fit the big nut and lacking tab on top, position the headlight to face forward as best you can and tighten it up.
back in over for 10 mins
push it back together.
job jobbed.

took me about 2 hours in total from taking the headlight out to putting it back in, took a while to dremel the right amount off but trust me it was so worth it i could see everything.

They have a little flap inside that opens up when you switch to main beam so used 3/4 of reflector on low and full reflector on high.
