Size chain for a 16T front sprocket?
« on: 05 March 2016, 03:11:24 pm »
Will I need a larger length chain than standard if I'm putting a 16T front sprocket on?
Thanks

Not for just one tooth extra.

I didn't think so either?! A 520 chain should be fine then?

 :agree

If you look at http://www.gearingcommander.com/

If you keep the same chain the spokcet distance will change. Means you move the rear tyre the same way you do when set up chain slack.

You will see 16T makes the sprocket distance in mm from standard 617.46mm to 613.79mm that is 3.66mm less. Surely you can move the rear tyre 3mm.

I understand that the wheel needs to move, however The wheel seems stuck with regard to pushing it towards the engine to get enough slack, possibly something blocking it, I have the chain and it is a 530 so I'll have a word with the local garage I think :)
