Reupholstered seat, underseat storage?!
« on: 21 January 2016, 12:37:31 am »
Well this evening I've mainly been reupholstering my seat. As the old cover was split, uncomfortable and filled with water.

I think it's come out pretty good  :)

I was wondering what, if anything, people put under that rubber strap?
My tool kit goes in the little compartment behind the seat.
Am I missing something? Puncture kit?
What came as standard from the factory?

So many questions?

What 'emergency', breakdown, general stuff do you guys carry?

For me it's toolkit, chain lube, zipties and carry straps. That's it.

I don't carry chain lube, but the rest yes.
I also carry a Crafty Plugger puncture repair kit and a Bike It micro foot pump.

The foot pump is crap. Awkward to use and the nozzle exploded the first time I used it, so had to change it for one off a Draper pump I had. But, it's small enough to go under the seat so I can live with its faults.

The Crafty Plugger is brilliant, can't fault that.

I did this on my ktm, couldn't get the staples in with a gun like that though, had to get an industrial sized one!
Looks good.
I've wondered about that extra strap too, but with my wet gear in there nothing else will fit anyway!

I believe the strap is for the service/instruction manual. Obviously I don't bother with that.

Normally sat under my seat is a microfiber cloth to dry a wet seat/grips/tank, a cargo net for the times I need to pick up spare nappies from Tesco and a long sleeved t-shirt for when the weather turns.

I should really stick some wd40, gaffer tape, cable ties, puncture repair kit, co2 canisters etc in there, but then it'll upset its delicate weight balance.

I was going to say, "disc lock?"...

And then I saw all the plastic hooks around it. Does the U-bar fit on to the hooks and the body of the lock go under the rubber strap. That's cool! Does anyone actually do that? Pics?

All of that plus a can of tyre weld, small can of WD, couple of spare bulbs, cable ties, and rape tape. Enough to get me out of most situations in the unfortunate event I break down in the middle of no where.

This thread reminds me I should buy some sort of breakdown cover.

Yes I always thought that it was for the u lock, the flat part of the lock I believe is a rectangle shape.
I keep a plugger set under the strap - was a kit from hein gerick with 3 inflation canisters i wonder how long they last (shelf life ) because I have had them under there for about 8 years.
The rest of my kit I keep in the tail and some can be slotted each side of the rear guard under the seat
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

Nice job with the seat cover, it's not as easy to do as people think.  :thumbup

I think only one specific lock from Yamaha actually fits there properly so most people wont use it.

I dont think the bike ever came with one and was a quite expensive option.
Does anyone actually have one I wonder

I've got the U-lock under my seat.  It's an Abuus one but with Yamaha branding on it.  I got it of eBay for about the same money as normal lock but think Yamaha were asking silly money.  Also got a tyre plug kit, cargo net, waterproof trousers and Scott oiler.

I like the decent size storage space on the Fazer its a lot better than most other bikes

So can you confirm for us that the black rubber band is to hold the u -lock in place.

I have almost finished reupholstering mine, just need to trim the leather a little.
I added an inch of foam to raise me up as the old knees are starting to complain.
Its a bastard and the finish is pretty good not perfect but I'm well chuffed.
