I think I'm in the market for one now 


I think it'd suit some of the roads around here better than the  , lighter, more nimble. Not that the Fazer is going. But the local Triumph dealer got flooded out and all their stock destroyed, can't find anything on eBay, gumtree etc reasonably local. Where else should I look? (shut it Exupnut, you complete and utter waste of space). Back down south, I saw one with all the right mods (Triumph accessories, Arrow cans etc) for around the 5 grand mark, but wasn't ready to buy then

The newest model has underslung exausts, supposedly moving a lot of weight lower and very noticeable, from 13 onwards I think.But if you like the high exausts and its cheaper then go for it and buy me one with the leftover money

Now that raises some questions. I guess at that price, that's a standard one, not an R. So that won't have the radial callipers, and the R still has better suspension? So if I went for an earlier R model, is it going to stop and handle better than a recent standard model?


Wish I could remember the year of the one I sat on, cos someone told me the riding position changed at some point, but the one I sat on felt ok. I guess I really need to test ride one first too, just to be sure I'm ok with them, and happy that they deliver what I'm looking for.

He he... I'm not too keen on blue, but some models suit it. I know nothing about street triples, but went looking as you were looking for one.. I don't know if it's the r model? They all look ugly without the flip screen

Yeah, they've got to have the little screen bit, and those mirrors! Yuk! Think I prefer older option silencers too. So maybe go back to a 2012 R model. Appreciate that you had a look     It didn't occur to me that Glasgow isn't that far away from me now

I have always said that a street triple would be my next bike.
I looked into it a couple of years ago and came to the conclusion that the R model was mainly cosmetic incl a gel seat - oooooh.
One thing though is that the --- not sure which year, think its up to 2012 does not have a fuel gauge, only a low level light.

No, the R definitely has radial callipers, and they're supposed to be better than the brakes on the standard model. Pretty sure the suspension on the R is meant to be better too. Not too concerned about not having a fuel gauge, as for me, the bike will be about fun Sunday blasts, not doing big distances. I can soon get the idea of what it's range is, and then I'd just reset the trip every time I fill up, which is what I do on the Fazer anyway. Besides which, I don't mind stopping for fuel regularly, like to have plenty of breaks to stretch the legs on a ride. I'll still have the mighty gen 1 when I want to do a big trip, camping, touring etc.

So my thinking was to not overlook a cracking deal on a low mileage one just because it wasn't an R.
Then there's the round vs bug eye light preference when it comes to year models.
At some point I think triumph were offering an extras package of a flyscreen/seat cowel and other stuff which would of come free with the bike so don't be lead to believe by the seller that the bike should cost more with them.

The first time I ever saw a twin round headlamp set-up on an unfaired bike I think was a Spondon custom-build in Bike magazine back in about 1982. Back then, I thought it looked the mutt's nuts. But I'm beginning to think that style has had it's day - Triumph have done it to death now, and I'm verging on preferring the later style. BUT.......the later style DEFINITELY needs the little screen to look right imo.


Weren't the Arrow cans also an optional extra at one point?

I do like it in black, and that looks a nice example, but Dartford? Bit too far away.


Nick, leave it for a bit, I need to get myself to a dealer and have a go on one first. I'll contact the dealer slappy highlighted in the new year and see if I can arrange a test ride.

I got as far as booking a test ride, on the phone I asked what do I need, "nothing but your license" came the reply. Got there did all the paper work, "now then I just need your £500 deposit to cover any damage" (our insurance excess )   
They never said that on the phone- I proper spat my dummy out and foced off home.
On top of that they would not give me a price for my bike until I agreed to buy - the one I was now not going to test ride.
Received a letter a couple of months later informing me that the dealer was shutting down (surprise-- not ) and not to worry because as a valued customer all my servicing needs can now still be had 30 miles away. Focing great !!
So yet again I looked at my FZS and thought "I don't need anything else"

I never used to have to leave a deposit to test ride bikes. Even got to test out my RG500 without a deposit, and you can't do anything but thrash those things. Still, if that's what it takes...

Not giving a price for your trade-in is daft though. I wouldn't consider trading anything until I knew at least a rough figure of what I'd get. Seems to me they're treating potential customers as stupid, and being obvious about it. That's no way to run a business.

I don't need anything else. But I want to try some different bikes. I've ridden exclusively gen 1 Fazers since 2005 - not even had a brief go on anything else since - well, used a GS500, then a boxeye Fazer for a few weeks while my bike was in for repair, but that's it. I used to chop and change my bikes all the time - liked to try different things, see what the latest were like, just to help keep up the interest if nothing else. I'd like to do that again, although I'm not going to stretch to brand new prices. So I'm just looking to vary my biking experiences a bit. I'm limited in that I can't ride anything with clip-on style bars, so sports bikes are out, but might eventually try one with a bar conversion.

The Street Triple is stated as a very good bike,,so the  minor tweaks that come on the "R" model make a slight difference but there are thousands of non "R" models out there, same engine, I bet we would not notice the difference between them , I reckon get the standard one newer.
