US Dollars to put in my bank account
« on: 17 December 2015, 09:06:29 pm »
I have 2000 US dollars in cash, I was wondering, if I want to pay that into my bank account, can I just take the $'s into my branch of bank and pay them in over the counter or is there a better way of doing it?

Yes you can pay it straight in to your bank but, as said,  you may not get the best rate.

There's a Debenhams local to me that always seems to have the best rates, but, check http://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com here for the best exchange rates

I'm afraid it's totally illegal fella punishable by a custodial sentance. Luckily for you I am in a position to offer you a way by buying your dollars at an extrenely competitive rate of $3/£  :kiss

I'd convert dollars to Swiss franks before. Just my 2 cents, as Americans say.  :)

the offer from Frosties is a bit low and I would not accept that. I can offer you an outstanding rate for a cash swap. $5 for £1 . I doubt you will get a better offer :pokefun

With a large amount you might get asked to prove your identity and asked how you came by it (anti money laundering checks). When you change it take your passport with you.

Opening a dollar bank account, I was asked to:

Fill in some 10 paper forms, stating that I am not a US citizen ("under full legal liability"). That I am not a terrorist, nor planning to become one, nor having been associated with any such organization. And a whole load of other crap I can't even remember.

As far as conversion goes, I think 5$ for one pound is not a good deal. It's better to invest in real estate - I hear the prices will soar. I can offer a high quality brick for 2000$. It's in mint condition, a bargain:

High quality brick my arse.......it's been used, looks thousands of years old, probably from a bloody pyramid and worth $10 max (RIP OFF). I however can offer a "pick your own" service - sample below.

I wasn't and since you can bring 10k into the country without checks I can't see why the post office would ask me where I got the money, it's not their business how I make my money. I exchanged it today, got £1240 for it in the post office and paid that straight into my bank account.
