MOT beam pattern
« on: 19 November 2015, 12:15:18 pm »
Can anyone who does MOT tests or knows anything about them tell me about the beam pattern needs to pass?

I stupidly bought two of these for the bike http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361370316459

Ive tested them with a 12v power supply and theres simply no patter theyre just like spotlights... this would be an instant fail right? or is there anything i could do thats not too drastic to alter the pattern.

P.S i know the red bit is illegal i planned on not connecting it. If i cant do anything with them im sending them back.

Check it against a wall.

As long as the top of the beam if flat or only kicks up to the left and the main (flat) part can be adjusted down to below the testers line it will be ok.
This is dipped beam only. Full beam can do whatever you want.

the top of the beam isnt flat which is a shame its basically a circle. I assumed they would be ok but when i tested it there was no pattern and they wouldnt reflect off my original reflectors anyway theyre too big i dont know why they can sell this shit without stating it has no pattern, I should of asked but i didnt even think about it until now like an idiot.

If i can adjust it somehow i will but i think sending them back may be the easiest option.

Black tape on the lens to create a mask preventing the light going too high.
