FZ1S 2006 FCE buying and fitting?
« on: 06 September 2015, 10:12:57 pm »
I have just sold me 2001 Gen 1, loved it but wanted to move to Gen2.

I have bought a nice 2006 Gen 2 and will pick it up on fri.

I have heard a lot about snatchy fuelling and have read about Ivan's FCE.

Dont know if its needed yet but checking out potential.

Do I need a Power Commander and or Dyno time along with the FCE?

how is the FCE fitted?

thanks guys

No you don't need a Power Commander or Dyno time. The FCE just eliminates the fuel cut which occurs when you close the throttle above 4500rpm. This in turn eliminates the snatchiness when reopening the throttle.

This link shows how to fit the FCE, I used this to fit mine.
Some owners do not find the throttle snatch bothers them, the smoother you are on the throttle the less you notice it.
They are quite pricey, about £180 new,I was lucky got a new one for less than half price from someone who had bought it and never fitted it before he sold the bike.
In my opinion they look a bit cheap, like something from China, the bullet connectors should be multiplugs to match the bikes existing multiplugs.
Saying that on my bike I did notice the difference after fitting, but it was not totally eliminated. They are also meant to give an 8-10 bhp boost in the midrange but I never noticed it and it did not show up on the dyno when I had my custom fuel map done.
If I were you I would ride the bike for a few months and see what you think before you made the decision about whether to buy one or not.

Don't bother with an FCE, just get the ECU re-flashed (remapped) http://hilltopmotorcycles.co.uk/

Ivan does his own re-flashed ECU.

Many thanks guys, lots of good advice, I will try it as is for month and see if it something I can live with. With regards to getting the ecu re maped, does anyone do an exchange service, so that I can keep on the road ?
