rust in cooling circuit
« on: 26 July 2015, 06:11:22 pm »
A couple of months ago, I changed the antifreeze of my fzs. As it was very brown and with a lot of mud, I cleaned the circuit with a lot of water until the water was transparent, and finally put 20% antifreeze...

Now, the green antifreeze is brown again, not so muddy as before, but the problem is there again. After disassembling all the hoses, there are two metallic pipes that looks like are rusting inside (the two next to the cylinder number 1).

So... If I clean the pipes again (pipe by pipe) and fill the circuit with antifreeze, will it rust again? Should I pay about 180 euros  :eek  for a pair of new pipes?

Are you sure that 20% is the right mix, I would go for 50% it's not just the freezing but also the rust/corrosion inhibitors in it?

Buy some Radflush and properly clean the system out.

Coolant/antifreeze needs to be either 50/50 if you mix it yourself, or i would personally recommend buying a good motorcycle premixed bottle.

20% is certainly not enough at all.

The 20% mix is premixed. I picked it because I thought the freezing point was enough for my area, didnt thought about other factors...

I'll buy a 50% mix and try the radflush.

We don't know what your area is anyway?

Coolant stops overheating AND freezing, and should help keep rust at bay too.
