Different Wheels on my boxeye..
« on: 08 July 2015, 07:45:34 pm »
My '98 boxeye has a black front wheel & a chrome rear wheel, was like this when I got it. Can I assume this is not factory spec..? I'm guessing the front is original but the rear has been replaced at some time..?

It's a standard rear wheel fella. To me I'd say the previous owner just removed the paint and polished it so the bike looked the way he wanted it.

A few of the lads on here have a similar rear wheel so seriously doubt it's anything to worry about. If you prefer black to match the front then give it a good clean, degrease then paint it.

Is it just me, i like the rear wheel?

The chances are, the last owner put it on a Dyno machine and, being a black bike, the colour just span off due to being the fastest colour!  :rollin

Not just you Darrsi - I also like the look.

There is someone on here who has polished their rear to nigh on a mirror finish which looks great - just can't think who.

I honestly like the look!

It reminds me of the early 80's Jap imports, like the GS/GSX. They had a nice polished rim on them. I was thinking about doing it myself next year when I get my wheels powder coated. It certainly goes against the 'norm' which I like!

I think it more likely that the black painted wheel commited suicide because it couldn't live with the fact that black is not actually the fastest colour. When confronted with this painful fact the paint died but then found itself reborn in the true fastest colour which everyone knows is SILVER.  :lol

It could just be that the bike was going so fast because it is black, and the paint couldn't hold on any longer! You will probably find it all curled up in the fetal position, wedged up behind the number plate, wide eyed and gently rocking backwards and forwards.

He obviously wanted to keep the front wheel down so he didn't dare add any silver to it :lol Polishing is painfully boring to do and then impossible to maintain unless you're out at it every week. I'd paint or powder coat it if I wanted that two tone look but I think the black looks better.
