I kept an analogue CRT colour TV going after digital switch over in this way.

Probably spent more on electricity in the first two years powering up that combo than a new TV would have cost.
Your heating bill would have been lower then though :pokefun

Digital TVs. Nothing but trouble. Havin to re-tune every other week cos they change the channels. When you re-tune, you cant get half the friggin channels that you had before.
Have they moved Babestation again?  ;)

Digital TVs. Nothing but trouble. Havin to re-tune every other week cos they change the channels. When you re-tune, you cant get half the friggin channels that you had before. Cant even find them when tuning manually, is like they've just been deleted. Picture pixelates and disappears then comes back. The sound goes up for the adverts then goes down for the programmes. Never had this shit with analogue

If your picture is pixelating then your aerial could be the issue. If it's a rooftop aerial have a look and make sure it's aiming in the same direction as everyone else's on your street, they can get moved by strong weather or birds landing on it or even flying into it.
If you use an internal aerial it needs to be aiming in the same direction but looking out of a window rather than aiming at a brick wall. Once the digital signal was turned on full power it became a very strong signal so there's no real excuse for a ropey picture these days.
Tuning your tv with a bad aerial signal is a pointless exercise which won't help matters at all. When you do an Auto Tune it should give you a rough idea of signal strength from 1 to 10, and these days you should really be getting a level of 8 to 10 unless you're in a built up area like flats, etc, which could have a greater chance of added interference.

Also have a flick through the audio settings on your tv and see if there's an option to balance or level your audio at all, which would stop adverts becoming annoyingly loud.

I dabble every now and then in the lottery mainly if its a big win on offer so I don't keep much of an eye on it. Gets my goat is when shops do not change the card display on the lottery plinth and leave the one in that says that is an £xxxxxx jackpot then I find out its only 7.5m  :rolleyes

The way the sound level on the telly varies with each and every programme, sometimes it's ok and other times you can't hear FA unless you turn the volume way up, and then when the ads come on it deafens you..

Use a box with Live Pause and wait 15 minutes after the programme starts or just record the programme and then fast-forward through the ads, sorted! :thumbup

Completely agree.
I rarely watch anything HD because the sound is so shit. I suspect it’s something to do with 5+1 surround sound/Dolby encoding, but my telly doesn’t have any of that and it means dialogue is almost impossible to follow. It’s fine on standard def though.

I think the main problem is the flat tvs as there is just not enough room to get decent speakers in. So yes the answer is a sound bar or a subround system

That was my solution too. Some of them you can tune to amplify speech over background noise.

Have you seen how cheap you can pick up decent televisions for these days?
I ordered a 43" Panasonic UHD 4K Smart TV the other day for our rest room at work, and it was only £347, plus i could've gone even cheaper if i wanted to.

Had to do one of those speed awareness courses yesterday,it was obviously boring taking 4hrs but I learnt a few things so not a complete waste of time and at least the insurance won't get the chance to kick me in the bollocks like they would if I'd took the points. My gripe is there's always a couple of mouthy fuckers who think they're comedians in these things, like when asked for a reason why you were speeding one shouted "cause I'm a tosser"and the other one was trying to be as "funny" ? by coming out with snidy remarks all through the course. If these had have been coppers I wouldn't have bothered I suppose but they're civvies just doing a thankless job and don't really deserve that shit. :finger

I have a 7 year old LG tv that had different apps including bbc iplayer and one by one the apps were dropped and no longer supported so to get the bbc iplayer I now have to use a now tv box. Don't do sky or anything.
55inch Tv cost almost a grand when I brought it - 3d which has also been dropped by broadcasters

I did one a year ago, and that was my experience too. Patronised for about 4 hours, but learned a few things, and better than taking the points.
Apparently, if you don't take the course seriously and piss off the presenters, they will report back to the police you have 'failed' and you get the points after all  :)

I think how it happens is that some of the apps are on the tv through a deal with the app owners and they get dropped with the contract ending - or something. The other way which is what happened with the bbc iplayer is that the platform changed and LG did not update the tv, I think that samsung support their tvs much better

Open up YouTube and do a search for 4K or 8K videos, then you'll really see how good your tv picture is.

Yeah, they certainly make a tv picture spring to life.
