Rear Caliper (01)
« on: 02 July 2015, 10:09:14 am »
Hello everyone, (Fazer 600 2001)

I'm sure you've all had these questions before but my rear brake caliper on the bike i bought is pretty shot one piston is seized which is causing the other not to work properly and i can't even bleed it properly because the previous owner has snapped one of the bleed nipples off one side and i don't want to replace one terrible caliper with the same one.

My question is i have heard a YZF750 rear caliper fits (and the obvious 1000 caliper) but the 1k calipers are like bloody gold dust, anyway which year of the YZF750 caliper fits with minimum modification? and i will i need the master cylinder hoses etc etc with it for it to fit? i know the TRX850 fit aswell as i have seen the guide but i cant find one and i have found a few 750 calipers.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated thanks alot!

Also if anyone on here has a caliper for sale let me know and im sure we can make a deal.

The rear brakes on the FZS600 are fine when in working order. I would suggest a strip down and rebuild as it will be cheaper and less agro.

I was thinking of rebuilding it i can get the pistons to pop out. My friend did it cleaned them up a bit with the green brillo stuff put them back in and they just wont build up any pressure to come back out the seal is fine because theres no fluid leaking out and the one bleed nipple it does have releases fluid wen we try it so i can understand why they wont come out.

you will have air in there. You need to replace the nipple.

You are partly correct.
To fit the standard rear brake mounting plate albeit with a little bit of filing, your options are:
1. Standard Rear caliper (including Fazer 400 version)
2. 2001-05 FZS1000
3. XJR1300 bluespot/silverspot (can't remember years)

Other rear calipers will fit with an appropriate rear brake mounting plate and rear brake hose.  For example, with the TRX850's mounting plate, you can fit:
1. TRX850
2. YZF750
3. YZF Thunderace
You might notice that these calipers all look very similar...because they are.
Mounting plates for the YZF750 and Thunderace are not suitable however, because their rear wheel spindles have a larger diameter, whereas the TRX850 shares the same spindle diameter as the Fazer's.

I have a Thunderace caliper fitted to my own with a TRX850 mounting plate

Thanks Kebab ill have a look for a trx mounting plate now i have found a yzf750 caliper 1996 i think ill have to check that will be ok? with hoses and master cylinder so if i can find the TRX mount i might buy them both and fit it.
