How far can you go?
« on: 16 June 2015, 07:30:47 pm »
I'm getting about 60mpg and I'm refuelling when the trip says 150miles (about11.5 litres). I've not tried to see if the low fuel warning light comes on yet. How far do you think I can go?

As long as you're not ragging it everywhere, a good but rough indicator is 10 miles per litre.
98-99 bikes have an 18 litre tank, so riding sensibly you should expect 180 miles.

00-01 bikes have a 20 litre tank.

02-03 bikes have a 22 litre tank.

There is no exact mathematic answer simply because everyone rides differently, some bikes will be more efficient than others, and circumstances will be different per person.
For instance I spend a lot of time in daily traffic, so I've never even bothered checking mpg, whereas a steady motorway rider will get full benefits.

100-120 when playing  (normal riding  :lol )

ps: i`d never run it till it ran dry as you just pull any shit / grit into carbs not good

Just asked my Microbiologist neighbour to read your post using his specialist magnifying equipment.  :lol

I'm not a fan of letting fuel run right down either, I rarely let it go below a third of a tank full.

I get 250 miles from a tank on my 02 Foxeye.
I've done 25 miles from when the fuel light comes on, but haven't pushed it any further.
Never got to put 22 litres in though

I  can get about 250 to my tank and it's a 98 18ltrs and I drive with high revs most of the time. It's all about the fun after all :rollin (warning light comes on at about 220) but I've only tried it a couple of times to see what I'd get, generally refuel when it's about the 220/230 mark.

That simply doesn't sound plausible?

It is, honest guv :)

A while ago we had same sort of discussion on here, I opened the breather hole in the filler neck and means I get more petrol in the tank.

Yeah, I know, was just teasing that in :lol
But it works a treat especially up hete in Scotland if your doing the west coast etc where petrol stations are few and far between, can get a good run all day without stopping for fuel :)

Mine's a 98 so must be 18 litre. If I'm getting 150 miles to 11.5 litres I should easily be able to get another 50 miles before refuelling. I think I'll test it out at the weekend rather than on the motorway on my commute

Carry a fuel can on your back seat too as you might not get that 50 miles :eek only reason I get more is that I've enlarged the breather hole in the filler neck thus allowing me to put more fuel in, and once I've filled it i need to use tge cemtrestand for a bit otherwise the fuel will come out the overflow pipe and you'd see a pool of fuel under your bike :(

I get 250km (155 miles) on my 03 foxeye, then reserve light comes up.

I guess something's wrong then?
I drive pretty hard though.

I wouldn't say anything is wrong, why do you think so?

Same here with breather opened up. Get about 190 before light comes on and good for easy 25 miles after - fills about 18 litres. 90 mph on motorwayfor 30 odd miles then ducking and diving round London.

Mine has the 22ltr tank and to be honest im not that anal about mpg, I just tend the fill up around the 180 mile mark and brim the tank.... maybe I should push it ...just to see like.    Then I can be as my signature suggests....  :rolleyes :lol
