how often do you guys hear your cooling fan kick in?
I had a bit of a enthusiastic ride the other day and when I pulled up at home and left the bike running while fluffing moving cars and opening the garage I never heard the fan kick in, infact ive never heard it. the red OMG light had never flashed either.

Only only very hot days in traffic, these bikes handle heat quite well. If your cooling system is operating correctly, and not clogged up, it seems to be enough in normal circumstances.
My previous bike's fan used to kick in all the time at the slightest hint of heat.
Saying that, it's not a bad thing, that's what they're there for.

I did a cooling system flush etc over the winter , so I know that its clean and coolant mix is correct... I had a zzr that lived on the fan and my gsx1400 was oil cooled with a HEL oil cooler and other upgrades and the fan for the oil cooler would kick in on hot days.

just didn't want the fazer boiling up as I had not heard it.

No, some people have never heard their fan since they've had their bike, they really do cope quite well without it kicking in.

Even on hot days at a standstill in London it doesn't come on, the fzs600 is renowned for having one of the best cooling systems ever!

Never heard mine in 14 years, changed the cooent last year and let is sit running with some flush in and got bored waiting for the fan to come on -- it never did, everything was getting hot making ticking noises as parts started to expand- smelt hot too, I wonder if it even works

Mine started once when I did the carbs sync. It was an hour running at idle and low rpms.

As i said before there's no harm in that, it's a good thing, that's what it's there for, plus it's good to know it's working if needed.

Manual section 8-53, shows connecting the 12V direct to see if it turns......i.e. if it even works - shall see what mine does....

8-54 also shows them testing the thermo switch by heating it in a bath of coolant....not sure i want to try that!

It will work, i wouldn't worry about it.

If you short the connector going to the back of the fan with a bit of wire it'll come on.

wired mine into a switch so i hear mine quite a lot

i will put mine on if im on the track or hooning around in low gears....

I see ive opened that can now

... I know the fan works as I shorted it to bring it on, im not fannying about sitting in a bath of coolant to see if the switch works.. il just wait for the red light to flash

I did a 140mile thrash around bucks and oxon today and left it idleing again... nope didn't come on so I will go with the" It will be fine " way of thinking.

Read this the other day thinking I hadn't heard the fans on my bike yet and then rode 200 miles yesterday and when I stopped the fans were really going. I did ride her pretty hard and did a solid 40 miles on the motorway too.

So many people saying nope never heard it. Now Im thinking if your fan DOES come on then you have a problem with your engine over heating !

That's what it's there for!

If you're that bothered or paranoid about it, then Radflush your system.

Did that last year and thats what made me think the fan dosent work as I left it ticking over with rad flush for 20mins and no fan.

What I meant was that it takes so much for the fan to actually come on (most peoples experience) like my never in 14 years with the bike, that if your fan IS coming on then that is the unusual part

Or get a bike that's system isn't as good as a fazer so you'll hear the fan coming on more

Shouldn't need it on the track the speed the fan draws air through the radiator is insignificant compared to the speed the bike moving through the air. Race bikes don't have fans.

My fan only came on when teaching people to ride bikes and spend an hour or so following them around industrial estate trying to persuade them the world wouldn't end if they got their Honda CG above 10mph.
