I'd say your dam lucky to be able to write on here to tell your story!
I've saw truck tyres blow and it ain't pretty, normally the wall of the tyre gets blown right off, they are generally between 90 to 120 psi so it's quite a bang. They also sometimes come off the rim once they've blown, that's the big bits you see lying on the side of road, so count yourself a lucky man, and don't be so close to a truck the next time you pass one. I drive trucks for a living, but when I'm on my bike, or car for that matter, I get over as much as I ca.  It's not just the tyres you need to watch if you do pass close,  it's the wind difference, that can suck you in towards the truck and it's also a scary feeling,  keep out of the windstream :-)

+1 !
On a 3 lane motorway I would rather move out to lane 3 when safe/possible passing 38/44 tonners to create a better safety margin-improved view-reduced risk of truck pulling into lane two-they cant always see you depending on where you are when/if they check their mirror. Beware especially left hnd drive foreign trucks whose drivers dont always adhere to UK driving hour regs. Also reduced effects of wind turbulence which can be quite worrying!
I guess you need to have been in the driving seat of a truck to realise how small/insignificant a bike appears.
As for blowouts-those tyres have an extremely hard life & sooner or later one will go bang.

It also happened to Luke when we were in the States riding up through Florida. The tyre blew and the whole tread came off like a flailing crocodile nearly taking his head off.
