radiator hoses
« on: 06 April 2015, 05:07:14 pm »
Hi all, looking for some advice, I'm trying to find silicone hoses online and was wondering if the fzs600 1998 shares it's radiator /hoses with any other model as it was built on a budget.
I also came across this online http://www.viperperformance.co.uk
And wondered if anyone has used them? Are they any good etc?
Cheers in advance.

Someone on the forum did a group buy of SPS Performance rad pipes a few years back. SPS will make sets if they get 10 or more orders at a time. Might be worth trying to get that ball rolling again? The other advantage is that SPS already have all the tooling for our rad pipes.

This thread was in the 600 section a week or so ago and will explain the situation.

Yeah Chris, I read all that but they don't do red, the fastest colour ;-) so I was thinking of buying pipes like those in the link and just cutting them down lengthways to fit, all I need to do is find the dam diagram in the downloads section :-P

In a 3 or 4 months, I'll be in the market for a red set too.  :)

I must of missed that, maybe they were too fast for my old eyes lol
I'll have another look but didn't I read they wanted a few orders or they wouldn't make them?
With that viper mob, you just get lengths of the required circumferences and then put them on, they're flexible to so no need for exact copies, plus I think there cheaper too than that other mob.

Yep, 10 for an order. Would need to contact them to find out how much it would be (was £108 squids delivered last time). Although there have been murmurings around?

Problem is the angles the pipes have to go round. Not sure if a) the pipes would go round them without kinking b) how well they'd survive at that stress.

Also, I don't think SFS have the pipes listed. It's a make-on-enquiry thing, I think.

That's right ChristoT.

We had several colours made last time, red, blue, black, could have had green or orange or purple too If I mind right...

They really need to be made for the angles as some of them have a few turns in them and one of them is bigger at one end than the other.

SFS agreed that they would make individual kits after the first order but didn't seem too keen on the idea when someone asked. They did agree to another order of ten kits though but we have been unsuccessful in getting enough people to commit to another order at the same time so it's never happened. SFS hasn't listed the FZS600 on their website. The link ChristoT sent you is the page where two members of the original order fitted red hoses, one to a gold bike which looked really nice and one to a red foxeye which also looked great.

Cheers for that Chris and Christo...
I've just spent the last 45mins reading that thread, took me ages to track down the price and if there were any issues.
I didn't see the one about a pipe being thicker at one end :-( that's a shame as viper stuff bends and would be suitable I think for the job,
Chris, couple of questions if you don't mind, as you fitted them,
was there any issues?
What pipe is thicker at one end?
And am I right in saying no other model would the same?
Cheers, Colin

Would you be interested in a SFS set? I'm happy to organise another group buy, if someone can order one for me, and keep it for a month or 2 until I start my summer job in June working at the Uni.

Chris mate, I'm in no rush, I'll wait till your ready and maybe we could get more interested by then, I was mearly just 'enquiring' into them and probably wouldn't change them till bike is off for winter anyhow then I could do a full flush and refill with coolant/antifreeze :-)

OK... that could work out.  :)

Remind me in May to post up about this. We'll need a month or two to organise Foccers. Like herding bleddy cats!  :lol :lol

Here is the thread I started last year to try and organise another group buy. There are some names of forum members that might also be interested on the first post. Like I said in another thread I won't have the time to organise another group buy but am happy to offer advice or assistance to someone else if they want to do all the leg work.

You can't just go bending pipes to fit, you'll end up with kinked pipes and the bike overheating, they need to be properly made for full flow and correct fitting on the bike.

The viper hoses I'm looking at aren't just normal hoses, they have a reinforced wire through them

From the website.....
"Manufactured with a steel wire spiral embedded inside the reinforcement plies, allows for a flexibility not possible with most standard straight hoses, and will also take higher pressures compared to standard silicone hoses"

I know bending normal hoses will kink and be pretty much useless but I also didn't realise that one of the pipes on the Fazer is bigger at on end, so that's screwed my idea up. :-(
Was just an idea, so guess it's back to drawing board lol
I think there is a few more interested in them again so might get details from Chris and see how we go about it.

The pipe that is bigger at one end is the large pipe from the coolant filler cap to the top right of the radiator. As seen here:

I see :-(
Is there much difference Chris?
Nice bike btw :-)
Where did you get the rim tape from, I much prefer that idea as apposed to all the way round, but I'd need to get it in the faster colour of red lol

I seem to remember it being considerably different. I really don't think the viper pipes would work, there are a few pipes that have very tight turns on them, others that have several turns in different directions (so the viper pipes wouldn't sit right) and almost every pipe is a different size to the other pipes so would be a complete faff to get the right sizes. Your best bet for getting pipes is to get them from sfs, they already have the tooling/sizes/dimensions made up for all the pipes so they just have to run off another batch.

Thank you, I've had it for 3 years now and done a lot to it but I'm very pleased with it.  :)

The rim tape was from ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xgraduated+motorcycle+rim+tape.TRS0&_nkw=graduated+motorcycle+rim+tape&_sacat=0

Yeah, I like it because it's a bit different to the solid line all the way around. I went for 3 pieces per wheel and centred them on the spokes. As for being slow, well... we'd have to settle that one on a track  :b

Yeah they look better than all way round, I wasn't sure if you'd just cut it down, very smart, think I'd go for reflective red, just for safety as well :-)
I agree with the hoses situation too, was just a thought at the beginning but as you say, there's too many bends etc
How are you finding them since you've put them on? Easy to fit? Leaks? Wear and tear? Etc

The pipes have been perfect.  :) easy to keep clean, just wipe with a damp cloth and that's it.

Haha, I wish we did have a racetrack up here, that would be amazing, lovely roads but you can never really go crazy on them...
