Tank protector

I am going to be putting a tank protector on my bike, has anybody got any special cleaning methods for preparing the area that the tank pad goes onto, or is it just a good clean with good old soap and water without wax ?

I use petrol to make sure it's extra clean, just make sure it's evaporated before putting the protector on

I just tend to use a little degreaser on a rag then let fully dry. Job done.

...and where's the best place to get a good, not too bling tank protector in everyone's opinion please ...?

Be aware !! The problem is not in the fitting but the removing at a later date. I have had damaged paint in the past. A Bagalux tank protector and  tank bag solves many problems in one move, and for the life of the bike usually. Regards Mike

the Germans thought that an 88MM was a good tank proctector.

I've used a bit of petrol in the past and it's worked fine.  I've had a Yamaha protector fitted to the 8 and it looks good.

This thread was started as it was for my 600, used petrol and all was well 
When I got my Black FZ1n I put a baglux cover on the tank, it is brill and it looks great on a black bike (in my opinion anyway)

SAME HERE WITH THE QUICK WIPE OF PETROL AND ALLOW TO DRY OFF.ON REMOVING THEM I HAVE ALWAYS USED A HAIRDRYER TO SOFTEN THE ADHESIVE (NOT A HOT SETTING) THEN GENTLY PEEL OFF WHILE KEEPING THE DRYER ON THE PAD.
