End Can Link Pipe Gasket
« on: 26 March 2015, 05:37:03 pm »
So i have a new end can....

The link pipe will not fit over the existing gasket - i am happy to remove it but not sure what problems i may run in to - aside from it leaking i don't want to be left not able to ride it over the weekend so wandering if anyone has fitted a scorpion end can gasket less....i have a query out to the manufacturer but thought i would ask here...

Thanks

Yeah, after market link pipes fit without a gasket, you should have clamp on it though!

OK so went on - and no leaks - need to take it out tomorrow - and about to see how loud it is without the baffle :)

Nice looking can that, bet it sounds nice too.

Quite long though... maybe just the angle of the picture.

Looks good!  My Scorpion fitted straight onto pipe without gasket using s/s clamp to ensure gas tight seal.
Notice corrosion on your collector box & centre stand.  Keep an eye on your stand as corrosion will eventually cause difficult operation & ultimately failure.

Yeah, my one became increasingly difficult to put the bike on the centre stand and it was because it had slightly corroded then managed to twist itself.
It's definitely something to keep an eye on because you really don't want it failing on you, and judging by numbers on here they all tend to go wrong eventually, especially if the bike's not garaged.

thanks all,

i have some videos of the sound with the baffle in, and shall have some with it out, will try post them somewhere....

the corrosion is the next thing to tackle, recommendations on what to use?, my friend suggested some spray on coating that bakes on i.e. spray it on, take it for a ride to heat the pipes etc....

I have a wire cleaning set to gently get the rust off, but not sure if a chemical cleaner would be any good?

shall look at the center stand rubber as well..

thanks

With the centre stand-remove from bike. Take back to bare metal. Pay particular attention to bridge piece as once this becomes weakened the stand legs will move out of alignment causing difficulty pulling bike back onto stand. If in good nick use a paint like Hammerite black smoothrite that doesnt require a separate undercoat-but there are other good products.
With downpipes/collector box again remove surface corrosion-make sure the drain holes (for condensation ) are clear. There are some good heatproof black paints on market-think I used a Halfords spray paint last time.
Finally if youre OCD like me get at the front of the engine where the spray/s**t gets thrown up and this is easier to do if you remove the exhaust headers but BEWARE-exhaust header nuts corrode onto studs.
Read threads/posts on here BEFORE attempting removal. Consider fitting a Feder Extender to front mudguard.
good luck

Both sound nice but I couldn't tell any difference with or without baffle  :\ . Maybe in real life you can  :) .

don't really care about the sound - thought i would pop the up as some asked - in real life the Scorpion does sound a little nicer, but not drastic, filmed on an iPhone as well so not the best - but which one looks better :)

As with all things - its a matter of preference!
