full fairing or not?
« on: 25 March 2015, 05:44:48 pm »
Hi all, thinking of getting a fairing for my bike, just wondered what your thoughts on it are? Was also looking at just the bellypan, but I think it's just for looks, doesn't actually do anything??
Cheers, Colin

Partly depends on how many miles you do- those aftermarket fairings can be quite fidly to remove when it  comes to oil and filter changes!

By full fairing do you mean those extra panels that you stick on the side because they always just look like some extra panels that you have stuck on the side

Yeah, thinking of full fairing, but would get it sprayed properly to match, maybe even the whole bike.
I'm more for full fairing for protection of the engine as well as me!
Wad also thinking of double bubble screen but some posts I've read say it doesn't make much difference.

The engine is meant to be seen,

I found the DB makes no difference, but it dose look good - unlike the add on side panels cause they always look like add - ons

Can you remember where you got the fairings from?

That is TPS. It is also expensive as fuck, especially as TPS have gone bust.

The only other manufacturer of full panels I know of is Skidmarxx... £150 for a full set.

Totally agree with you there John, a bike is a personal thing, how it looks is your own choice, not someone else's :-)

Nobody's slating you though, you asked the question so it is more like a poll now where you'll get everyones individual preference to them rather than them attacking your own personal taste.

It sure does caretaker, really neat with the matching seat as well, sets it off nice
I've always had bikes with full fairings but as I got this from my mate at a bargain deal I couldn't pick what I wanted,  but just thinking if it would be worth while doing it or not.

Watch your eyes don't fall out with all that rolling about fazersharp, was mearly asking at the beginning, but more I looked into it, I think it looks really nice if done correctly.

I reckon it can look good.  It really depends on which ones you get.
I ended up getting a bellypan (which hasn't arrived yet so no pics) and i reckon it'll balance the bike out a bit having some red at the bottom as well as the top (very technical i know).
I looked briefly at the full fairing but since i want to move the top fairing down and forward it wouldn't work for me.

The engines on bikes are pieces of art and should not be hidden IMHO

saves you a load of cleaning, but is a pain in the arse if you need to do any work on the bike.  I fitted a belly pan, and found it's pretty good at keeping the winter crud off the very bottom of the downpipes which had previously rotted away.  Think the silver fairing looks pretty neat though, a bit like an old BMW.

the foxeye that was posted here looks ok
the boxeye looks ugly as fek

if you crash it or drop it at low speed then its more to fix.

its 1 extra thing to clean
pain to do oil changes or keep an eye on stuff down there.
