what's your fuel range?

Hi guys, new to foc world but I filled her up and cost me about £15 for premier fuel, it had been lying for a while so thought I'd treat it and hopefully flush out the old rubbish too.
But here's the dilema, she's down to quarter of a tank and I've only done 58 miles!
Something is deffinetly wrong, just don't know where to start looking.
I've looked in tank...and probably quite low!
No leaks, checked Everytime I've went near the bike, nothing on the floor saying that.
Help point me in right direction guys, this'll cost a fortune to run at this rate!

I get a minimum of 150 from brimmed tank to light coming on so something well up with yours.

Yes, goes great, runs well, smooth, and idles no problem, I've been around bikes for years, just got back into it after a few years off, but this is throwing me :-(

A good guide is 10 miles per litre on any of these bikes "on average" so you should expect 180+/- for your 18 litre tank, depending on how it's ridden, traffic, blatting it, etc.
My guess is your fuel gauge is giving a wrong reading if all seems okay.

I get 230 out of a foxeye tank, after putting in 20.29ltrs costing £22.50

My huess is your fuel gauge is giving a wrong reading if all seems okay.

I did read about the 170/180 range, but my concern is that it's showing about a quarter of a tank and looking in the tank, that seems to be what's left, my biggest concern though is, I filled it to top, and I've only done near on 60 miles, by my reckoning, I'll only get about another 80 miles or so, it well might be ok, was just checking to see if this was about right, I'll keep going and see what happen.

Due to the tank shape it can be deceptive how much fuel is left looking through filler cap and the gauge isn't accurate.  When my tank is half full even slight hills can get it to go between quarter full and three quartets full.

Try filling it up again and see if it takes 5 litres or 15 litres. 

How full did you fill it? Below bottom of filler cap tube, to bottom of filler cap tube or spend an extra 5 minutes squeezing another 2 litres in after fuel reached bottom of tube?

I filled it up to the neck,
I guess the proof will be when the light comes on and reading the forum I'll get about 30 to 40 miles once that's went on, but I never run my bike down low, so think I'll need to judge what I get from filling to when light goes on and figure out if that's normal.

I agree it's quite cheap but to be honest, I just wanted to check if this was the norm as  my gauge shows just over quarter of a tank but only done about 60 miles so far. I don't know the bike, this is my first tank of fuel, so was just checking.

As long as the bike doesn't stink of excess fuel or is chucking out smoke then I doubt you have too much to worry about.

So reading that darrsi, I should just wait and see? The bike runs great, smooth, no fuel smells, was just a bit concerned on the gauge reading, but I'll certainly keep a wee eye on it.

As you say, it's your first tank of fuel, give it time to get to know your bike.

Yeah, I might be worried about nothing and it'll sort itself out, that said, I've opened her up a wee bit as she'd been lying for a while and wanted to clear it out a bit, so maybe 2nd tank will be better.

No doubt I'll get shouted down, as it's been discussed before, but PERSONALLY I find 97ron fuel to be the best all rounder.
Don't like 95 at all, and 99 is good for a blast but not for general riding.

Don't trust the gauge, just keep an eye out for the warning light, at the least you'll get another 30 miles!

Just looked at  mine and it shows 184 miles and it's sat just under the 1/4 mark.....

250 from my 2002 foxeye being careful before the light comes on, less if I'm tanking it :-)

If you're proper caning it, you can see the fuel gauge moving towards empty at an alarming rate as you ride!
