i done goofed... SOLVED!!
« on: 17 March 2015, 11:49:36 am »
Wanting a bit more noise i decided i would take the middle pipe out of my standard exhaust... the one that you can see at the end...

so all is going well, drilled holes through it and stuck a stiff bar through pulling it up and moving it about untill eventually the weld broke and it was free!!!

free to move about an inch due to being flanged! DOH

now ive had to drill into the outer tip of the exhaust to bolt the inner pipe to it for now...

tip for people: don't try and take it out it is flanged!

not my picture but i couldn't find it untill after id done it.

FIXED IT !!

Had another go at getting it out, had to hammer a long flat screwdriver around the hole to make it big enough...

not sure on sound yet as ive just filed the rough bits inside.

It aint pretty but no-ones really going to be looking inside it!

You do realise that you should now have your carbs rejetted to make up for the lack of back pressure in the exhaust.
If you don't you may end up burning your exhaust valves.

I notice other men think its great that i do this, the living room table makes a good work bench too... but for some reason my girlfriend dislikes this quite a lot... i have to work in comfort!

Couldn't give a toss about the post count and I've got too many cuts, bruises and headaches to be classed as an armchair expert. I speak from knowledge and regret. In the mid nineties I had a mint Honda CB250N which I dropped at around four mph on ice at a junction. When I picked up the bike I had a broken indicator and a loose baffle on my left silencer. I replaced the indicator and thinking I could live with a little rattle (and without the cost of replacing the silencer) I left it. Fast forward four months driving home from work and a max of 15 mph at 9000rpm in second all the way home. Took the head off to find a half moon burnt out of the left pot exhaust valve. It cost me a fortune for an exhaust valve and gaskets, an expensive lesson never forgotten.  :'(

i dont know of a single person on this forum that has jetted their fazer carbs for a new exhaust or even for performance because it just does not work.

Basically helps that as stock the FZS runs a bit rich - so by fitting a can and air filter you're balancing it back out again!

I'd agree if Paulfzs had put a new exhaust on but he hasn't. He's ripped the guts out of one and this will definitely alter the carburation balance.

I wish you well with it. mine didn't explode just lost a load of power. If you're happy with it good luck.

I've got a blue flame evo that decided to do this mod to itself on my way to Spain. A quick tap with a Birmingham screwdriver sorted that out. Baffle now will not budge. However I replaced this old duffer of a pipe with a lovely Mivv GP. The blue flame is still lurking around at the back of the garage.
